Chapter 16: Vows

Adam awoke with a start. He had rugged breathing. He had just had a nightmare were Andy came back and killed everyone. He got up and went down into the dining area of the Y. Ev was there eating some food. Bob was there too, drinking something. Jaden was giving the new people and tour of the Y. Yesterday four new people showed up at the walls. There was Larry, Joe, Mike, Sarah and Jade. Larry and Joe were a bit more older than the other two. Larry and Joe were also brothers. Sarah was only ten years old and Jade was about 18 or so. They had brought with them some weapons and food and they wanted a safe place to stay. After they finished up at the air force base, which was now completely covered in sickos, they came back to the Y and had spent the last 2 and a half weeks fixing all the damage. Andy had ended up getting away with a car. Matthew was being feasted on by sickos when Ev left him. The loss of the Bane of Kings had sent Ev into a fury. He had killed about 30 or so sickos in his rage and hadn't spoken much since that night. Ted was seriously injured by the sword slash but he was able to recover. Jakob had been in shock for a day because of how close a rocket came to hitting him. Now he and Jaden were fighting each other for the affection of Jade. Everywhere she went those two were always close behind.
Adam had something special planned. A day or two ago he was out getting supplies and he had found a ring. He decided to propose to Gen. He told everyone secretly except for Gen herself. The next couple of days a secret party was set up in the gym. Then the next day Adam went and did it. He did it when he went outside to go watch the sun set with her and of course she said yes. The next day everyone came to the party in the gym. Some of the food the new people brought was perfect for the occasion. There was a couple of cakes and other desserts. Jakob got to be the stand in preacher. The party ended up going pretty late into the night. Everyone was either tipsy or on lots of sugar. Jakob and Jaden spent the better part of the night fighting over Jade. Ev tried to see how many different things he could hit with his knives. Ted and Bob just sat around watching everyone else. The rest of the people danced around. It was about 11 at night when everyone was calming down, well almost everyone. Adam and Gen strolled down the hall chatting.
"That was fun " said Gen
Adam nodded in agreement as he took a sip of his drink.
"I feel like we'll be happy together " he said
She nodded back. She leaned against him and yawned. Adam watched and smiled. He didn't notice Ev dive out of the room nearby until he threw a knife into his drink, knocking it out of his hand.
"Dude why" said Adam
Ev then darted down the hall, tossing knives everywhere.
"What was that" said Gen
"No idea"
Next came Jakob and Jaden arguing over who was better for Jade. She trailed behind watching them. She seemed amused by this. Adam and Gen eventually made it to their bedroom and had some peace. Eventually there was only Ted, Bob, Jakob and Jaden and Ev. Ted and Bob watched as the other three did what not. Jakob and Jaden had started to fight each other and eventually Ev somehow got worked into it to. After an hour the three of them were all passed out on the floor of the gym. Ted and Bob then preceeded to go to bed.
