Chapter 15: A Weekend With Alec Rinder

I used the key Riley gave me to get into her room, I could hear muffled screaming and shouting from inside. As I opened the door I heard Riley screaming Ava was running around screaming nothing, and Mark was yelling at Riley. Riley had her fingers in her ears, and was screaming, "La, la, la!" Very loudly, she was in a light purple sports bra and black yoga pants. Ava grabbed Riley's arm making her open her eyes, when she saw me she screamed and crawled to the top of the twin bed, and slid under the blankets. "Awec!" Ava screamed jumping up and down on the bed, "Alec! Get in the bathroom!" Riley screamed the blankets wrapped tightly around her, I walk into the bathroom and close the door lean against it and wait. And wait, and wait.

After Alec walked in on me I struggled to find a t-shirt, before I decided to grab my white and grey tank top with grey flats, since it was hot out today. And stood ignoring Ava's plea's to stay in the room, as I grabbed the key I knocked on the bathroom door and left with Ava testing on my hip. He didn't even have the curtesy to cover his eyes, player, I always knew and last night I let myself believe something else. I left the resort and headed out side to where gran and gramps were taking a few kids on quad rides and I let Ava go along. It was only 4:30 and I was starved, at gran and gramps dinner was usually between, 6 and 8 in the evening. I decided to head over to the house to see if I could get some food, hoping to avoid Alec, I was so embarrassed. But I failed as I started walking down the fenced line, "Hey where you going?!" He called down, I continued to walk, he grabbed my shoulder, tingles, shivers, blush. Dammit his touch was so amazing, as most girls would think with the hottest boy in school, he was the hottest I had to admit it. "Hey listen if you're worried about the bedroom thing...." Alec started to say jabbing towards the resort, "Well....um...." He started to say, I looked up he was running a hand through his hair, was Alec Rinder struggling for words? Oh and was that a blush? I crossed my arms across my chest, "You're hot," he finally said kicking a rock, I blushed, and looked down at my feet, my arms hung by my side, flutters in my stomach. He didn't mean anything by that, he's just a player, just a boy who gets laid, because he's so hot. "Listen if you want to forget it then fine, I guess that's just the part of me that didn't care I just stared and I'm sorry," Alec said, "What do you mean?" I asked, kicking his shoe with mine, "The man whore who just stares and doesn't care," Alec said clearly I nodded, "But to be honest you shouldn't be all that embarrassed it's not like I haven't seen you in a bikini, or in a sports bra, the beach, working out with Sarah..." He said, that's true, I don't know ever since a couple weeks ago I've felt different around him and I don't particularly like the feeling it's new. "Say something before I make a fool of myself," Alec said, what do I say, i heard something behind us but ignored it, Alec said something and started walking to the side of the fence hallway, I started sweating and I couldn't see anything, everything went limp and I fell to the ground Alec rushed to me worried my face in his hands, and then I closed my eyes and everything was black.

Beep, beep, beep, beep, I rolled over then was aware of a pain that made me cry out, I scratched at it. And felt a small tube, my eyes flickered opened, then shut again, why was it so bright? From beneath my eyelids I could tell someone turn off the light, wait why is someone in my room? My eyes opened, mom, gran, gramps, Marie, Kimberly, Benjamin, Natalie, Ava, Mark, and Alec all day in the small room mom on my left. I gathered my surroundings, a light blue coloured room, and the annoying beeping of the heart rate machine, in my arm was stuck and iv tube. "Riley your in the hospital," mom muttered she looked as though she let a few tears slip over her eyelids, "Why?" I asked, "You had a major TIA's, Transient ischemic attack," mom said, my eyes slowly opened, "They were worried about you and prescribed you some drugs, they said on Tuesday night you should be free to leave," mom said, "What day is it?" I asked, immediately hating, the smell of the hospital, and thinking of the food, "Saturday, darling," Gran said, I groaned, then the nurse came in she was wearing pink scrubs with purple cats on it. A doctor in a long lab coat and blue scrubs followed behind her, "Hi Riley how are you feeling?" The nurse asked, "I feel great!" I said, as loud as I could although my voice came out raspy, and I wasn't honestly feeling that good, "Your clue gives you away," the doctor said picking up the clipboard hung at the end of the bed. The nurse typed in the computer beside the bed, "I'm Benjamin, and this is Christina, I'm your doctor," the doctor said and nodded over to the nurse, Christina. She smiled, she was brown haired and wore it back in a low pony tail, she wore pink lipstick and light brown eyeshadow and dark mascara. She was really pretty. "So when do I get to go home?" I asked, Benjamin and Christina laughed, "Oh your serious?" Benjamin said, I nodded, "Sweetie you've had a major TIA and we have no idea why, you can't leave right away what if it happens again?" He asked, "Then I'll come back," I said, "So wouldn't it make more sense for you just to stay here and get healthy then go?" Christina asked, "No," I said, I was not leaving, I could tell, but I was not staying here either. "When you can walk and stand then you can go," Benjamin said, smiling, I nodded taking the challenge, I flung the blankets back revealing my bare legs, right I was in a hospital gown luckily Alec passed me a pink cotton robe that I recognized as my moms, I put it around my shoulders, grabbed the annoying beeping machine, and pushed myself out of bed. Only to find I was really weak, and I started to fall, strong arms were placed under my armpits and sat me back on the bed. Alec stood back held out a hand, and I took it determined to try this one more time, I pushed up again I stood for a second before I collapsed back onto the bed. "Good luck Riley," Christina said following Benjamin out of the door. Everyone could tell the anger which I made evident on my face I was getting out of here, whether they liked it or not. "Also on your fall you cracked a rib," Alec said, is that why it hurt so much, "Great," I muttered, "So even if you were to walk their not letting you out of here until that's fixed," Alec said, I groaned mom put a cup of water on the side table and slid it over top of me, I grabbed it and chugged it. It soothed my sore throat immediately, the door opened and there was shuffling, "Oh my god I just heard!" I heard none other than Sarah shout, her arms were filled with bags, she rushed over to the bed dropped everything beside it and hugged me, luckily she didn't touch my cracked rib. "Are you okay? Look at you you don't look like a healthy Riley bunny," Sarah said peering at my face, "Hun we'll be right back," mom said touching my hand before everyone left, "Now I'm a bunny?" I asked, "Riles you were always a bunny," Sarah said giggling, Jess came in afterwards with some bags too. "Riley you okay?" She asked, "No," I said, "I hate hospitals, and they won't let me leave till Tuesday," I say, "What's with all the bags?" I asked, "Riley Jessica and I found some seriously drool worthy clothing deals," Sarah said setting the bags on the bed at my feet, Jess did the same, "And now that Sarah has a boyfriend, we had to get some new looks," Jess said, right Sarah and Joe! "Oh my god right, how's that going?" I asked, "Great," Sarah said, "Oh please don't lie, they can't keep their hands off each other, or their texting every minute," Jess said, I raised my eyebrows, "Anyways," Jess continued looking in a pink bag, "We didn't forget about you, there was a whole bunch of really cute jeans and stuff," Jess said, "You guys didn't have to do this," I said, pushing myself up straighter, "We certainly did you need something to wear once you get out of this grubby place," Sarah said, looking around then answering her digging phone, with texts that probably read, 'GO AWAY!' Jess pushed a couple bags towards me, and Sarah did the same putting her phone on the back pocket of her jeans, there was four bags and they were both full. The pink bag was jeans and pulled them out, gasping because I loved them, there was a blue bag the same colour as the walls with t shirts and tank tops. Then there was dresses, and leggings, hoodies, jewelry, and little nick knacks. I thanked them, "Oh and there's shoes in the car," Sarah said as I pulled out some jean shorts I could wear these camping, belly shirts and bras and swimsuits. Sarah and Jess started organizing the clothes in outfits with underwear and bras, "Thanks guys," I said, I didn't mind my friends buying my undergarments I mean they were my two best friends. "Sarah we gotta go get ready," Jess said checking her phone, "Where are you guys going?" I asked sighing unhappily wishing I could come, "Well bring the shoes in but, we've got a double date," Sarah said winking they kissed me on the cheek. I smiled and they left, returning a few moments later and putting the shoe boxes with the outfits then left for good. About twenty minutes later as I was looking at the shoes which happened to be high heels, wedges, and sneakers, and slippers for comfortable pajamas. Alec knocked on the door then walked in, I felt embarrassed as I started to put the outfits in the bags, because my undergarments were out but, I got them rid of before he strolled into the room. "Where'd your friends go?" Alec asked peering at the now empty room I looked around as well, "They left, had a double date," I said sighing, I wanted to go and be out of here. Around the room was flowers and cards, and a few wrapped gifts, "Thanks," I said to Alec recalling that he was the one who saved me from being squashed by a quad. "For what?" He asked casually leaning against the wall at the end of the bed, his hands were deep in his pockets and stared at me with blood and intense blue eyes. "For saving me from getting killed by a quad," I said, I was embarrassed he was looking at me like that, I probably looked horrible. Hospitals did that to you, "No problem but it's not like I did much I just picked you up," Alec said, nodding he looked at two ceiling, "Here, I brought you a bag of your stuff," Alec said, grabbing a small blue bag from the end of the bed and throwing it on top of my knees I pulled it up to me. I unzipped it and peered inside cautiously, my hair brush, tooth brush, my favourite blanket, my purple sports bra and a black v neck and jeans with black flats. "Thanks," I said smiling, as I took out my book Me Before You, "Oh and this," Alec said pushing up from the wall and digging in his left pocket, he pulled out tangled earbuds and my life saver, my cell phone. He walked over and handed it to me, "Thank you," I said sighing of happiness, I took it from him, and turned it on. "Now what are we going to do?" Alec asked, "So now your going to help me stand," I said pulling back the sheets, "I don't know Riles the doctor said to keep the moving to a low because of the blood clot," Alec said, which surprised me, "Look who cares," I said smiling, Alec pulled the blankets back across my legs, "I always care," Alec said smiling, he grabbed my panda blanket which was so soft, he spread it out over my legs. My family started to file in again, and I missed it just being me and Alec he waved a small waved and exited the room just as the last bit of family filed in I looked after him lost. Why did he leave? Instead Ava jumped on the bed, she had her ponies and handed me one and we started playing before I got tired and passed out.
