Chapter 13: Relief Party

I woke up that morning with a smile on my face, well actually no. I woke up to my annoying alarm clock, then groaned and sucked in some drool, and made the dinosaur noise after I stretched until I realized what day it was then I smiled. Tonight was going to be a party, a relief party at my grandparents house, with all my friends so much fun. I showered applied my makeup the way Sarah had showed me all the while listening to music, when a sad song played, I skipped it if I listened for too long I'd cry. The weather forecaster for hot I would come home after school anyway but, I still slipped on some light blue coloured jean shorts and a black V neck t shirt. Then grabbed my converse and skipped down the stairs, with my bag in hand a smile on my face I was so happy. Mom was prepping lunches for everyone, "I'll pickup, drop off, prepare, and do whatever else with the kids today while you just worry about working, coming home and making yourself refreshed and staying happy." I said to mom taking over the egg cooking, I popped some toast in the toaster, "Oh no Riley it's-" "Shhh, just take the offer happily mom. I want to," I said my finger on her lips, she smiled and nodded, shocked. "Okay," mom said, I could tell she was thankful, "Oh and I promise no sugar they'll have enough tonight at the party, " I whispered to mom, she laughed and nodded. "Are sleeping there all weekend?" I asked, "Yes so bags will have to be packed," mom said slapping together the last sandwich, "Consider it done," I said, my grandparents lived an hour away, oh wait if I wanted to drive mom out there with the kids I can't drive Alec. "Hey mom but one thing," I said piecing a plan together, "Yeah," she asked, "Would it be okay if Sarah drove my car out?" I asked, "Or Jess?" I asked, "Why?" Mom asked, "Well I offered to take Alec and all his friends with me out there but...." I said, "You mean he bothered you until you gave in," mom said I snorted, "Yeah," "How about this? You pack the kids enough snacks and games for an hour and let me do the driving trust me I need it," mom said, "Alright," I said, I actually didn't want to travel with the boys but whatever, I texted Alec.
Me: How are you going to get home after the party??
Alec: Uhm
Me: ??
Alec: Oh Kevin, Chase and Dylan can drive together :p
Me: Ok so two with me then??
Alec: Yeppers
"Mom you can stay late if you want, four seats just opened up," I said, "What?" Mom asks, "Alec needs a way back home so his friends or three of them are going to drive out so I can take the kids, and you can stay late if you like," I say, knowing she probably wants to take an extra hour to clear things up, "Besides dinner starts at 7:15 you probably won't get a hot dog till 8 ish," I say, "Ok thanks Riley you are the best," Mom says hugging me, I eat quickly, "Come on kids," I say grabbing their bags and walking out the door, 7:40 should be perfect timing. "Yay! Riwey is taking us to schoows!" Ava shouts grabbing her jacket and baby doll, "Bye mom," Mark says, I head out and grab their car seats, after getting them in I drive off to their schools. I drop Ava off first, letting the lady know I'll be picking them up, then Mark letting them know the same thing. At 8:00 I race out of the parking lot and into school arriving at school just as the late bell goes. I grab my gym bag and race to the gym, I push open the door to the girls washroom and go into the change room, I slip on loose black basketball shorts, and a navy blue t shirt which also is loose. "Riley why so late?" Jess asks me as I stand beside her for O'CANADA to play, "Had to drop kids off," I say, the song plays then I collapse beside her and Sarah as announcements play. "Do you guys want a ride to my grand parents place?" I ask, "Yeah sure," Sarah says, "That'd be cool but how would I get home?" Jess asks, "I can drive you home if you like?" Sarah says, seems they get along well, "Sure that'd be great," Jess says, "I have to give Alec, Joe and my siblings a ride as well," I say, "Okay no problem," They say at the same time we all giggle, "Bench Dodgeball this morning," The teacher shouts making us silent, he starts putting us on teams and luckily all three of us are on the same team. We start and I don't realize Alec is on the other side getting hit in the side, I look towards him and he's giggling. I go across to their bench and stand up being the first one on it. He stands directly in front of me, blocking all the balls that come at me. "Hey quit that!" I shout to him, "Sorry I'm guarding you," Alec says not looking at me, and hitting another ball with the one firmly clutched in his hand. I jump for one but he blocks it, "Remember who's your ride to the party tonight," I say, "I've got my motorbike," Alec says, "Did I hear someone say party?" Tiana says walking over, I groan, "Yep," Alec says smoothly, "Alec stop that!" I shout he chuckles, "Well I demand to know where this party is at," she says, I finally catch one and jump off, "And I demand for you to stay uninvited," I say, at her throwing the ball at Alec as I walk away, "It's probably a lame one," Tiana tries to shrug off, "With Something like 200 people I don't think so," Alec says, once I get across the line, a ball hits me in the back. I turn to see Alec laughing at my hateful face, I walk back across and stand on the bench. "It's called dodgeball for a reason," Alec says, "Hey look Joes getting it on with Sarah!" I shout Alec looks and I catch a ball, "Your also supposed to pay attention," I say throwing the ball at him and walking backwards I catch the ball he throws at me. And he looks super shocked but, slowly walks over and stands on the bench I stand in front of him. But on the bench he's just to damn tall, I jump "Some girls have moves," I say lunging upwards for a ball which he catches successfully. I groan, "Its called grow a little, short ass," Alec says chucking the ball at me, "Short hot ass," I say, "True dat!" Alec shouts, "Your disgusting!" I shout at him, then the teachers whistle blows saying it's time to shower, and change. I grab my bag changing into my swimsuit, Sarah, Jess, and I share a stall, and I shower first. Happy that all my makeup is water proof although I don't let my face get wet. I change back into my original clothes as the others shower and change. Then touch up on my makeup comb my hair and blow dry it with the schools blow dryer. The bell goes and we head out of the gym and to our next block, today is a full day. At lunch we all gather around the table, Dylan staring at me the whole time. Creep. "So yeah you guys just take the bus after school take this," I say handing Jess my house key, "And wait for me," I say, "Unless you want to change for it then walk over or whatever," I say, "or I could pick you up after I pick up the kids." I point out, they nod, "I think if you just pick us up after you do the kids that's cool," Sarah says, "Do?" Joe says raising his eyebrows, "You know what I mean," Sarah says back at him, "I didn't," Joe says pointing to the other guys who just nods. Except for Dylan he's staring at me and it's bothering me, I giggle "What about us?" Alec asks me, "When we are ready for you, I'll text you," I say, "Ready for us?" Joe asks raising his eyebrows again, "Is somebody horny?" I ask throwing a piece of lettuce at him, he blushes, and there's ohhh's around the table. I smile, he just stares at his lap, "So it's true?" Sarah asks the question before I do, "No!" He shouts making a few kids stare at us, the bell rings and we go to class, after school I collect my things and head out to my car. I drive to Marks elementary school, I walk into the office, "Um hi Debby," I said, interrupting her typing, "Hi Riley, how have you been?" She asked me, besides my parents getting my divorce, the person who stabbed me/ex boyfriend coming back? "Fine thank you," I said, "I'm just going to collect Mark," I said, she nodded and I walked down to see Mark already running my way. "Hey Riley!" Mark shouted, he ran ahead and saw Debby as usual then we walked out and I got him in the car seat then ran into Ava's day care. "Hey there!" I said, Claire looked up, "Hello!" She said, "Riley is it?" She asked, I nodded how do all these people know me? "Picking up Ava?" She asked, "Yeppers," I said, "She hasn't stopped for a second about her camping this weekend, oh and how she misses her dad, he's gone again is he?" She asked typing, I froze I didn't know how to reply, when I didn't reply she looked up, "Um something like that," I said swishing my hair out of my face. Mary went back and brought Ava out front, she rushed to me and we walked out once she was in her car seat I drove to Jess's then to Sarah's. At home I rushed upstairs, "Mind watching them for a few minutes?" I asked, "No not at all," Sarah said, Jess nodded. Upstairs I grabbed two outfits each and an extra pair of socks I chucked some diapers in for Ava. And went over to moms room, I grabbed a sundress, some of her yoga pants and t shirt. Then went over to my room, I grabbed my backpack shoved a pair of sweats and two pairs of shorts with random t shirts. I grabbed a swimsuit, then went back for a swimsuit for the kids and mom. Once I had toothbrushes and hair combs and clothes for everyone, I grabbed a couple teddy bears their leap pass, books, and a few other things and raced downstairs with four bags. "Ready to go?" I asked out of breath, "You can't go like that," Sarah said, "No," Ava said we laughed, "Why not?" I asked looking at myself, yeah my hair was messed up and my jean shorts grew up higher but I wasn't that bad. Jess grabbed my shoulders and steamed me upstairs to my room, "Come on kids," Everyone was in my room, Jess was curling my hair while Sarah was redoing my hair and Ava was picking out my outfit. Mark was talking to Alec and Joe about dinky cars through the window. Sarah grabbed a pair of light coloured Aeropostale jeans for me to change into so I did, shrugged on a beige leather coat and brown riding boots. "Their you go," Jess said, "Me next!" Ava shouted admiring my outfit, "We'll do you in the car," Sarah said poking Ava and went across to Ava's room to get some new clothes. Jess redid the kids 'to do' bags and grabbed a few things I missed while I talked to Alec and Joe. "We're ready!" Sarah shouted a few minutes later at four, the boys left and I walked downstairs, phone, purse, keys, good to go. I called mom in the car, "Hello?" She asked, "Hey mom," I said, "Babe how you doing?"
"Oh good, um I grabbed some yogas and a sun dress for you, grabbed the buns off the counter and packed the kids stuff we're just leaving now," I said
"Oh good let grab and gramps know,"
"Okay love you,"
"I love you to Riley," mom said then hung up, I turned the radio up, Alec was in the passenger seat, which I did not want, Sarah and Joe, in the back, with Mark, Ava, and a passed out Jessica in the middle seat. Car rides made her so tired, it made me laugh, "What are you thinking about?" Alec asked me out of the blue, "What?" I asked, realizing I was grinning, "Oh just how car rides made Jess so sleepy," I said, giggling, "Oh," Alec said. "So your grand parents?" Alec asked, "Oh they live on a farm but the party is at the resort they own a couple miles down," I said, "Oh okay," Alec said, "Yeah it's so pretty," I said, "Thats actually where my parents got.....that's where it all started," I said recovering, "How are you doing?" Alec asked, I glanced over at him, and bit my lip, "Well I know it's not all that great, but with it all..." Alec said, I tried to find an answer, "No you know what forget it, it's a stupid question," Alec said leaning back in his seat and looking out the window, "No I want to answer, it's just I don't know how," I said, it was silent for a while until I looked in the mirror and saw Sarah and Joe passed out on each other. "I knew it! I called it!" I said not realizing the words actually left my lips, "Knew what?" Alec asked, I gestured to the mirror then took it back thinking it probably hurt his feelings seeing Sarah with another guy, he just shrugged. "Aren't you...." I started to say looking at him, "Hurt? Nah I knew he liked her in more than a sexually way, so I backed off, I liked her body didn't know a damn thing about her," Alec says, wow he was being a gentleman! "Bros before hoes?" I asked, "Something like that," Alec said, "Joe and I have been friends forever, I ran into him at my old town I was with a girl and we were getting drinks we switched numbers and never lost contact. He was there for a week, and we were inseparable, I couldn't do something like take the girl he likes from him, plus he never does hits and runs like me, so when he likes a girl he likes her," Alec said, "Hit and run?" I asked, "Yeah or as you call it man whore," Alec said, "Shhhh!" I said jabbing my thumbs to the kids who weren't paying attention, he glanced back at them, then continued to look out the window. About 20 minutes later we arrived, "That's the diner," I said, pointing to it, "Wait so why aren't we going there?" Alec asked, "And man is that beautiful," Alec said, it was huge, "Well upstairs is like a hotel so a b&b," I said, "And we are the first people here I have to go say hi," I said driving into my grandparents drive way. It looked so treed in but there was only one row of trees at the front of their yard so no one can see in. Then on either side of the driveway there were freshly painted white fences, with horses in them a large one on the right and two small ones with horses in them, behind that there was two more. A big red barn off to the left, and a big house with a garage at the end of the driveway. From my house to this it looked like a mansion, behind the house and barn there was a huge field with fences in it and a back yard of lawn. It was really beautiful, I turned down the music, "We're here!" I shouted, "Nana! Papa!" Ava screamed, throwing her leap pad on the ground, "What? Huh?" Jess said, waking up wiping drool from her cheek, I giggled, "We're here," I said, she started helping Ava get out, "Hey lovebirds! We are here!" Alec shouted, they slowly pushed themselves up, then realized what they had been called, and what they had done and shot up, pushed away from each other and blushed. I laughed alongside Alec, I saw grandma come out, "I was wondering who owned such a good looking car," Grandma said as I got out, everyone filed out, I noticed a few cars in the driveway, "Nana!" Ava shouted running over to her and hugging her legs, "Darling! Mark! How you kids doing?" Grandma said, they started shouting about random things, "Gran these are my friends, they came along for the party," I said motioning to them, Sarah stood beside Alec who was beside me, and Joe was beside Jess who was beside me their cheeks still flushed pink. "Oh well welcome, please come back everyone's out back, we were just going to start setting up the staff is already over there." Gran said walking to the backyard I followed behind her with everyone else behind me. "These are my friends here for the party really? Riley?" Alec whispered into my ear, "Im sorry I didn't want to say everyone's name," I shot back, "Well stop being so lazy," Alec said, in the backyard I saw my aunts and uncles standing around, Gramps was sitting in a chair talking to one of his friends, "Everybody Riley's here!" Gran shouted, people shot up and came towards me hugging me and saying how much they missed me and how much I've grown up. They talked to Ava and Mark, when we were finished, I went over to Gramps "Hey grandpa," I say, he pulls me into a hug, "Oh it's been so long," he says, "Hey can I show my friends around?" I ask, "Yeah you know what how many of you?" Gramps said, I turned around "Five including myself," I said, "Oh you can ride the horses if you like," gramps said. I nodded and went back to my friends, "Want to look around?" I asked, "Sure," everybody said and we walked out of the backyard, "Alec when are the other guys going to come around?" I asked him, "7:15 why?" He asked, "We can go riding if you want," I said, "Hey Riley darling," Gran shouted, "Yes?" I said turning around, "Do you want to just set those buns in the back of the truck?" She asked, I nodded, "Yeah sure," I said, "Thanks Hun," she said, and we continue to walk, "Boys buns," I snapped my fingers they sighed and went to get the buns, "Let's go saddle some horses girls," I said, then started to run to the barn, I grabbed 3 leads, and handed one each to Sarah and Jess. Jess and I have road many times before but Sarah hasn't this is going to be fun. I walked out to the pens, I open ended the first gate to collect, my favourite horse ET. She was a light brown through bred, with a white stripe down her nose. I used to ride her all the time, she was quite tall she had four socks that were different sizes as well. She knew who I was right away and trotted over to me, she shoved her face in my shoulder and I pet her mane. "Hey girl," I said, I slipped the lead on her nose and over her ears, she didn't even flinched and just followed me out. Jess had the black and white paint named Oreo, already, "Do you mind taking ET and getting the guys started on brushing I'll grab a Sarah a horse," I said, Jess nodded taking the leash and walked to the four poles that were outside. "Sarah what horse do you want?" I said motioning around, "Umm Riley I haven't exactly rode before so..." She said, "I figured, Joe!" I shouted he looked up and sprinted over, "Yeah?" He asked, "Have you ridden a horse before?" I asked, "Are kidding I spent the past three summers at my grandparents house riding," Joe said, "So then you can ride with Sarah," I said they both looked at each other, "Alright then perfect," I said walking over to a pen to grab another horse. "But Riley Alec hasn't rode before so he'll have to ride with you," Joe said, I stopped great, "Ok," I said then went into the pen, I grabbed the Albanian horse named Stinker Mark named him, and Ava named Oreo. I leashed him and told the two to start brushing him, Alec was done brushing so I could throw the saddle on her I did at the same time as Jess, I did up the straps and finished without Alec helping so I grabbed the bridle and some oats, "Hey Riley," Alec whispered to me, "Yeah?" I asked, "I've....well..." I could tell he was uncomfortable, "I've never rode before," Alec said. "I could tell that," I said to Alec, Joe saddled up Stinker, and Jess, Joe, and me got on to warm them up. We did a couple laps before I said, "We're ready hop up newbey," I said, he shot me a quick glare before he returned to being scared, after a very clumsy getting yo with ET looking back a couple times, he was up. Sitting behind me he asked, "Where do I?" Alec asked, I grabbed his hands and placed them on the horn of the saddle. He sighed in relief and his knuckles turned white from hanging on so tight. I started to trot down the driveway and went right because there was a trail down there. The others were right behind us, Jess was first to the gate so she got off and unlocked it. We all went in then started to go down the trail, sprinting the horses as fast as they would, go until we came to the river, we got off and let the horses drink while we sat and hung out. "Woah," Sarah said, it was really pretty there was a hill with flowers on the other side of the river. And down stream more there was a waterfall, "This is so pretty," Sarah added, the boys started to take off their shirts. "Wait what are you guys doing?" Jess asked, "Going swimming, you coming?" Joe said, "No," I said, I looked at Jess and she had the same crazy expression as mine. "I'm just grabbing a bottle of water," I said backing towards the horses, I grabbed Sarah's arm and pushed her up on ET, then I got up. "See ya," I said we rushed the horses except for one up the hill and away from the river. I could hear them shouting, and I pushed ET harder, we were running so fast my eyes started to water, Jess was behind us. Sarah's arms were locked around my waist, I slowed ET when we got to the house there was no cars there everyone probably left. The boys were just getting back when we pulled the saddles off of the horses steaming bodies. The other guys were here already, "Hey bitches!" Alec shouted, "What the hell?" He asked jumping off, as I lead Et to her pen, "Shouldn't have gotten in the water," I say, once the horses were all un-saddled and in their pens. We jumped in my car, and drove to the resort, once there I parked and walked inside the building. It was huge, on the inside there was a staircase in the middle of the room leading to the b&b. Off to the right was an office for gran and gramps and beside that was the huge kitchen, I often worked here, on the left was a huge ballroom which usually was where the dinner was held. Behind the staircase was a huge ballroom for dancing or whatever. Behind the resort was a huge amount of land for weddings and anything to happen with three bbq's and a pool. The back field lead to gran and gramps so they could bring horses over for people to ride on. It was so pretty and always so much fun. We walked through the ballroom, where Joe grabbed Sarah by the waist and swung her around in a circle they are so cute together. We walked through the back doors, and went outside "Theres my beautiful girl!" Gramps shouted, he was getting ready to bbq, "Guys I'll be right back make yourself at home," I said to them they went to the snack table, "Riwey!" Ava shouted, "Ava!" I said picking her up and resting her on my hip, "How was the ride?" Gramps asked, "It was fun thanks," I said, "Did you feed the horses?" Gramps asked, "No but I can go back and do it if you like," I offered, "Oh that's alright sweetie," gramps said, "You went horsey riding without me!" Ava exclaimed pouting, "Yes but I'll take you after supper," I said, "Yay!" Ava shouted, "I don't mind doing the horses," I said, "Whatever just let me know," Gramps said, "When is your mom coming here?" Gramps asked, "She'll leave at 6," I said, "Your dad coming?" Gramps asked, "Gramps um," I started putting Ava on the ground. "Gramps mom and dad are getting a divorce," I said sighing, he turned and looked at me shocked, "Oh why?" Gramps asked wrapping me in a hug, "It just wasn't right," I said, "I see," Gramps said seeing as I didn't want to say too much. "Go have some fun," Gramps said pushing me away, "Oh and that boy of yours he seems nice," Gramps said, "Gramps no you don't see I...I am not with him.....he's more of a...multiple girl man," I say struggling, his face takes recognition, "Well you better tell that to your grandmother she's been telling everyone Riley has got a sweet boyfriend finally," My eyes widen. He slaps me on the back, I walk towards my friends, I check my watch. 7:15 it reads, mom should be here soon, speak of the devil. She walks through the door with Marie, she runs over to gramps, she made it. "Let's go some where," chase exclaims, "Nah there's food here," Alec says, "Alec my sweet son!" Marie screams, "Actually yeah lets go," Alec says, "Hello everybody," Gran says on the microphone, "Welcome to this party, there is many people here tonight and more to come, my wonderful husband and company. Are going to start putting on the hot dogs and burgers, there is juice and punch and snackies on the left." Gran says motioning towards us, "If you want a adult drink 18 plus, it's inside at the bar, in the ballroom, as well as more food. I hope everyone enjoys their time please make sure garbage gets in the garbage, oh and quads at the back, thank you." Gran says turning off the microphone, people start clapping, we get in line for food and I get a hot dog. When we finish we all decide to head back to the quads, there's six but we don't want to quad. "Why don't we go walk the quad trails?" I ask, "Truth or dare!" Dylan shouts, "Oh shit," all the girls say but, it's not like we aren't going to play so we sit down in the grass closer to the trees. "Truth or dare Alec," Joe says, "Dare," Alec says, "Kiss Riley's neck," Joe says, "What no!" I shout, he brings his lips to my neck , feeling tingles and kisses it then sits back at his spot. I wipe it away, "Truth or dare Sarah," Alec says, "Dare," Sarah says, "Straddle Joe," Alec says, Joe who's legs were stretched out are now in cris cross apple sauce. "You've gotta let it happen," Alec says, and Joe stretches his legs out again, and Sarah sits on his lap them both blushing like crazy. They are looking each other in the eyes, I punch Alec and point to them and we start to stand and leave leaving them behind. There's music playing and the ballroom lights are playing. The song  Break The Rules starts to play, "Come on guys this is a really good song!" I shout grabbing Alec's arm and running to the ballroom, we start dancing to it basically jumping up and down shouting the words, "I don't want to go to school I just want to break the rules!" I shout Alec shouting with me, we are laughing fans having a good time this is exactly what I needed. A few moments later I feel a tap on my shoulder, and turn to see Sarah standing there a smile across her face, "Can I talk to you?" She asks, "Brb," I say to Alec as Sarah grabs my arm and pulls me out of the ballroom. "I kissed Joe! Then he asked me out!" Sarah shouts, "And what did you say?" I ask, "Yes!" We do our high pitched girly scream, then head back in to where our friends wait.
