Chapter: 20

It was my first day back to school. My dad was completely out of the house. I wasn't upset about that anymore.

I showered and got dressed. The house was freezing. I pulled on sweats and Uggs and grabbed my bag. As I walked out my room, Liam stepped out of the bathroom.

"Morning" we both said in unison

I laughed and repeated it. We hadn't seen each other since New Years Eve. After he told me he loved me, I made up some excuse that I had to put Sam to sleep and left.

We never got a chance to talk about it and I wanted to keep it like that. I didn't want things to be awkward but how could they not be. Even if we did talk about it what would I say.

"You cut your hair" he asked

"Just a little. How'd you notice?"

"I notice everything when it makes you look good"

I smiled. We both went downstairs.

"Why is it so cold in here?" I asked

"Oh your Mom said to tell you the heater broke." he said

I rolled my eyes.

"At least I'll be in nice warm school" I teased.

I got a text on my phone from Chris telling me he was outside.

"See you later" I said grabbing my bag and heading out.

I hopped in the car.

"Good morning soon to be licensed driver" he said driving off

Today I was taking my driver's test after school and Chris was tagging along. He's been helping me this whole time.

"I am so excited but nervous at the same time"

"Don't be. You were taught by the best" he joked

I ran out of the DMV and straight into Chris's arms.

"Something tells me you passed"

"You're looking at a licensed driver" I said excitedly.

"I'm proud of you Mel" he said pulling me in for a hug

We began talking on our way home.

"So how are things he asked with Liam" he asked

I sighed. "On New Years Eve, after the ball dropped, he told me he loved me"

"Woah" he said astonished

"I know" I said covering my face

"What happened after that?"

"Nothing. We haven't spoke about it after that"

"Why not"

"I've been avoiding him. I don't know what to say"

"Well do you feel the same way"

I nodded

"So tell him that"

"But I just broke things off with him"

"Mel listen. When you wait too long to do things it never gets done. You two obviously have some connection"

"Should I really ?"

"Yes you idiot"

I laughed.

"When did you become a love advice expert"

"A lot of thinks happened in Florida" he winked.

I walked into an empty house. Liam must have taken Sam out.

I went up to my room and found a gold gift box. On it was a note that said -From Liam

When I opened it, I found a glass heart with a poem engraved on it

I'll tell it rather simply;
I'll say it plain and true-
A single thing is all I want
And all I want is you.

It was beautiful. I couldn't help but smile.

"I love you too" I said holding it.
