~Trigger Warning~

"Niall," I said as I walked into his music room, where he was currently playing on one of his guitar.

"Hmm?" He continued to play.

"We need to go to the hospital."

His head shot up to look at me, fear in his eyes. "Why, what's wrong?" He was instantly by my side, his arm around my back.

"Something just doesn't feel right."

"Okay, umm I'm going to call a couple people and find someone to watch the boys then we'll go." He started ringing different people until he found someone that was free. Then he quickly ushered me to the car. The whole car ride he held my hand.

When we arrived at the hospital, Niall rushed us inside. After checking in, we waited until we were called to an exam room. As I was sitting on the table, Niall paced the room chewing on his nails as we waited.

"What brought you in today?" The doctor asked when he finally enters the room.

"I'm about six weeks pregnant and I haven't felt great all day but I just thought I was maybe getting sick. But now I started to experience some cramps, more than normal. And I'm really worried." Niall stood beside me, I took his hand in mine.

"Alright we will have a look and see if we can find anything."

He started with just basic physical exam stuff before moving on to the ultrasound. He looked around but his face didn't look promising. Every second that passed, my heart sank further. Watching as he continued to search, we both waited, hoping, praying for good news but we never received any. "I'm sorry but I'm not finding anything here," he informed us. My heart dropped. "I'm sorry but it appears you have had a miscarriage." Looking to Niall, his head dropped. "There is nothing you did wrong and there is nothing you could have done to change this. It's just something that happens and we don't understand why it does." I nodded, trying to hold my emotions in. "If you want you can try for another baby whenever you are comfortable. Just because it happened once, don't think it will happen again and you can go on to have many more normal pregnancies. I will give you both some time and you can leave whenever you are comfortable. I'm very sorry." He gave Niall a reassuring squeeze to his shoulder before leaving us alone.

Niall looked down at me. "Can we go, I just want to be at home?" I asked.

"Certainly. I'll bring the car around." I nodded.

When we arrived at home, we were greeted by Riley and Finley at the door. "Where did you go?" Riley asked.

"Don't worry about that right now. Can you go play for a little bit, I'm going to take your mum to bed?" Niall suggested. "Let's get you up to bed sweetheart."

"What's wrong with mommy?"

"I'll explain to you later. Why don't you go play football with Finley?"

Niall took my arm and supported me as we went upstairs and into our room. I took a seat at the end of the bed. "I'm going to try and explain to the boys, I'll be back in a little bit. Do you need anything?" I shook my head, not trusting my voice to speak. "Okay I love you." He placed a gentle kiss to the top of my head.

Once Niall left me alone Charlie walked into the room. He sat down beside me and rested his head on my knee, allowing me to pet the top of his head.

Niall could be heard downstairs trying to explain to the boys. "When mommy and daddy had to leave today it was because mommy wasn't feeling well so we took her to the hospital. Don't worry mommy is okay but she may seem a little sad for a little bit so we just need to give her time and for us to be really good and not upset mommy. Can you do that for me?" We hadn't told the boys about the baby yet and I guess it was a good thing.
