I graduated on Sunday and the following Tuesday I was in the airport again flying back to London. I was going a couple of days earlier than the wedding so I could help Katie with any last minute planning things she had to do yet and also to see Niall. I can’t say I wasn’t a little bit excited to see him again because I was.
This time the flight wasn’t as great as the last one we had. Riley was becoming more mobile and was now crawling all over the house getting into things he isn’t supposed to and making more messes then I had time to clean up. So making him sit for six hours was difficult. But thankfully after playing with him a lot and after his ears adjusted to the change in pressure, he feel asleep as I gave him his bottle and was out until we landed.
Everyday he was learning something new and it was kind of sad because he was growing so fast and I did want him too. I wanted him to stay my little baby. He had started trying to stand by himself using furniture but hasn’t quite got it yet because he still fell down. I had even gotten him to say mama a few times even though he didn’t know why he was saying it.
We arrived in the early hours of Wednesday to find Katie smiling happily at us in the terminal. I hugged her as I walked to her car and loaded my bags into the back. Before we could do anything else, we had to go to the dress shop so I could try my bridesmaids dress. They needed enough time to make sure they could get any last minute alterations that needed to be done finished.
We sat down in the living room and talked about what was still needing to be done and what the plan was for the next couple of days. Katie read me her vows to Kyle and I helped her change a few things she was stuck trying to find the right words but otherwise they were very sweet and thoughtful. Riley was cruising around on the floor playing with his toys, happy to be able to move again. We were sitting on the couch talked when Katie stopped what she was doing and with a serious face looked at me. “I think it’s time to you called him. He’s probably waiting impatiently.”
“I know, I’m just nervous.”
“You were with him for how long? It’s not like you are going on your first date with a guy, you’ve known him for two years. He’s your baby daddy.”
“Please don’t call him that, it makes it really awkward. But it’s different now, it’s like our first date again. So much has changed since the last time we were together.”
“No they haven’t. The only thing different is you have Riley now. Just call him.”
“Riley is kind of a big thing. He’s the reason we broke up in the first place but fine give me my phone.” I grabbed my phone from her and walked into the other room to have silence. I played with it for awhile before I dialed his number.
“Hello?”
“Hi Niall, it’s me.”
“Erin! I was starting to worry you wouldn’t call me or you were avoiding me.” I could hear the smile in his voice.
“I’m not that type of person, I keep my word. Anyhow, I have some free time tomorrow if you want to do something.”
“Are you crazy? Of course I want to do something. I will pick you up at eleven. And wear something comfy.”
“Alright, see you tomorrow.”
“See you then. I’m looking forward to it.” I ended the call with a smirk forming on my face.
The next day I woke up when Riley decided it was time to eat, which was much earlier than I wanted it to be. I crawled out of bed, fed him, and after he was finished, we played on the bed for a while.
When I put him down for his morning nap, I took that time to get ready. I took a quick shower, blow dried by hair and put a little makeup on. Most of the time now I didn’t ever wear makeup because Riley didn’t care if my makeup was done and he was the only person I saw in a day. He was the only one that I needed to impress and I could achieve that by giving him some food.
