The car ride was definitely one to remember, full of yells and bad singing, hunger complaints and "emergency" bathroom breaks, but it was the fact that none of them held back on their jokes and personalities that brought them so close. They would rail and roast eachother with no regrets over the simplest things that made no sense, throw empty wrappers up to the front seat and back again, prop their feet up on surfaces that would result in yells and smacks.
The ride was several exhausting hours and once they followed the interstate and passed the sign that welcomed them into Alabama, Audi started to become more and more anxious. It was all the same feelings as seeing Phil, but add her little crush and she was questioning if she looked okay or if her outfit had a stain on it. Next thing she knew, she was thinking up dumb little scenarios that could happen while they meet eachother. Maybe he'd think she's not pretty in real life, or that she was too loud. Before she could think anymore thoughts, the steering wheel was being jerked right by hands coming from the passenger seat.
"Oh my god Audi! You almost drove off the road!" Ava yelled at her, her small hands still on the wheel as they cruised over a curvy, country road.
Ashley popped her head in between them and patted Audi's shoulder with a concerned expression. "She's been driving for three hours, I think it's time to switch.."
Ava nodded and Audi slowly pulled over, getting out and making her way to the backseat to switch with Ashley. Before she could get into the back, a hand was on her shoulder again, "are you okay?"
"Yeah, Ashley, I'm fine.. I was just lost in deep thoughts.."
"Well, relax for the last couple of hours, you need it."
Audi nodded and climbed into the back seat, leaning against the uncomfortable window after buckling up. The car slowly started up again, picking up dust from the gravel lining the road.
The problem with leaning your head against glass in a car, any vibration happening inside the outer shell of the car gets passed onto your head or whatever is touching it. So Audi's head was constantly vibrating and giving her a headache, the opposite of what she needed in order to relax. With Ava and Ashley in the front seat loudly singing to some Ariana Grande song that she didn't care about. (A/N @ava ) Audi sighed and put her hands over her ears and leaned back in her seat, her headache starting to grow, but only seconds later, new and bigger hands were pulling her towards them. "Put your head on my shoulder if you want to."
She moved over to the next seat over and laid her head onto Phil's shoulder, his arm wrapping around her shoulder to let her be more comfortable. "Thank you," she mumbled before closing her eyes.
Two hours later, they're pulling up to a smaller hotel with potted plants surrounding the doorways, making Phil gasp and ask how they keep them so alive. Audi can't help but notice the pieces of paper scattered around the doors with the message that doors are only open between 5am-11pm, a very weird rule for a hotel, but that's not the point. They gather their keys for their rooms, two to be exact; girls and boy.
It was around 8pm when they all got back from their small dinner at a pizza place, heading into their rooms with goodnights to Phil as he headed on into his own. They all changed into their pajamas, washing their faces and doing everything in order to get into bed, and with every minute, Audi was starting to get stressed out again. Only a couple of hours after waking up, and she'd be meeting Dan. Someone she'd met online and somehow gotten a crush from his charm and good looks.
11:49 and they were supposed to be at an old Waffle House in eleven minutes. What if they're late? Is he going to wait or be mad?
"We're here, can you please relax?" The small laughs from Ashley as she took the keys from the ignition. "Why are you like this? He's just a boy."
Audi just rolled her eyes and got out, running a hand over her ponytail, cringing at the amount of frizz.
"Okay, well i guess it's time."
They walked up to the small, yellow building, the smell of syrup already overwhelming filling their noses. The black screens were blocking their view to the inside, making Audi even more anxious, and she didn't know why. Phil walked ahead and held open the door for the girls to enter, now only separated by one last door to the inside. She looked around, a feeling of butterflies and energy whirling in her stomach, no sight of the brown haired boy. She stopped as Phil walked ahead once again to open the last door, and she finally walked in with almost the same confidence she'd had since seeing Phil at the icecream shop. In the corner, a boy sat with his back turned to the rest of the place, three tables turned to make one long table, his head rested against the window next to him.
"I don't know what he looks like, do you know?"
"Yeah," Audi smiled, "he's over there."
Ashley looked in the direction Audi referred to, nodding her head with a pleased look, "I can only see his back but damn he looks like a good piece of boy."
The group laughed, taking their first steps towards the oblivious boy. "He is," Audi whispered before hesitantly tapping the boy on the shoulder, resulting in him gasping in sudden surprise. "Hi Dan."
"Oh what the fuck, you scared the shit outta me."
"Good first impressions, dude." Phil mumbled, making Ashley laugh and agree.
He rolled his eyes playfully and pulled Audi in for a big hug, "oh my god, I'm so sorry, but hi! I'm so happy to see you all! You all look beautiful!"
"Thanks Dan, you too man." Phil says, patting him on the back and sitting in the booth, Ashley following after getting her awkward hug. Ava soon slid in for the last seat and all who were left were Audi and Dan as they just looked at eachother without words to say.
"Okay lovebirds, I'm hungry and at this rate, we'll get service by Christmas."
"Oh yeah, sorry," Dan coughed and pulled out the chair next to his, motioning for Audi to sit, and after she did, he pushed it in for her as if they were at a five star restaurant and not a dirty Waffle House.
"So how are you?"
