When Dan woke up, Audi was in the kitchen organizing the bottles and vials of medication into an empty shelf.
"Good morning, beautiful," he smiled, stretching his arms into the air with his fingertips brushing the ceiling. Audi blushed and shook her head.
"Good morning to you. Now take that medication on the table."
On the same counter as yesterday, a paper towel with the same two pills and one tablet was waiting for him. An empty needle sat close by. Dan took the medication with no hesitation and soon Audi was out the door.
When she met Ashley and Ava at the small cafe, she knew there wasn't going to me much more to talk about with the Dan-Ashley situation. She'd already pieced most things together but still had empty spaces where the lines just didn't match up.
"Good morning, Audi." Ava said, handing her a coffee. Audi took it between her hands and gave a good morning back, sitting in the small chair.
"How was you day?" Ashley hinted with her eyebrows raised.
"Nothing happened, it was crazy though."
"Did you make out?"
"...No."
"Did you f-"
"No, Ashley, we did not do anything intimate," she said slightly annoyed. "I just helped him with some things he was avoiding and such."
"Like..?"
Audi sighed, the images of his crying face resurfacing in her crowded mind. "He has medication for a viral infection in his lungs but he's not taking it, so I'm going to try to help him." After she'd said it, she realized that 'helping him' probably wouldn't be a short job.
"A viral infection?" Ava asked with worry. "What kind? What the hell does that mean?"
Audi could just shake her head, "I don't know. He didn't tell me that much." She then averted her gaze to Ashley, who mindlessly read the ingredients of a packet of sugar. "Speaking of things that weren't said, why don't you tell me everything you know about Dan that you've kept from me?"
Ashley sighed before telling everything she knew, from the very beginning to the present time as they sat in the cafe. She explained how she first found out from him that he smoked, and the pictures he'd posted and had to delete, the conversations and his crazy mood swings and threats... The threats always haunted her, feeling that now that Audi knew, what was the possibility that Dan would be hysterical about her knowing? Would he actually hurt her? She didn't want to know, and neither did Audi. She couldn't see Dan hurting her or her friends, and she knew he wouldn't dare. She hoped he wouldn't dare.
She was glad that now she knew everything that was held back against her. She understood why Ashley didn't tell her, and a little bit of why Dan said what he said as far as injury wise. She understood why Dan would be so hostile. But even after getting to know all of the information, she still felt as if they, Dan or her friends, could lie behind her back at any moment and pretend everything was fine like they had been doing. That worried her. When they left, Ashley and Ava went back to their hotel and Audi made her way to Dan's apartment. The second she got there, she knocked on the door, a feeling of happiness to see him in her stomach. When there was no response to the knocking, she frowned and knocked once more, which also resulted in a silent nothingness.
