Today was the day. Today is finally the day I can call Matt my own. It scared me to think that I would say Matt was my husband not my boyfriend. It still didn't feel real calling him my boyfriend. I'll always remember the day he asked me to be his girlfriend. It never hit me. But I think it had, finally.
"You ready?" Lily's voice came from the other room.
"Yeah almost." I say just gathering the white and blue roses I had.
"Okay I'm ready." I say with a sigh. A few seconds later Lily and Nat walk into the room in matching white dresses and blue ribbon around the waist. Ever since Matt proposed I knew I wanted these two as my bridesmaids. It wasn't an option. I give them a smile and show them my outfit. I was wearing a white wavy  dress with blue lace and ribbon streaming off at different angles. It reminded me of Matts blue eyes. I look down at my clothes and look back up at the girls. They both had they're eyes fixated on me.
"You look amazing....." Nat says looking me up and down. A smile comes across my face and I blush.
"Thank you." I say.
"You both look pretty amazing." They both smile at me and a few seconds later my dad appears.
"Well don't you look amazing." He says walking to my side.
"We'll leave you two in peace now." Lily says as along with Nat they both walk out the door leaving me and my dad alone in the room. He puts his rough hands within mine and looks me in the eyes. My dad looked so different from me. He had black hair pulled back and a small beard across his face. He looked like a protector. A fighter. But he wasn't any of those things. He was a soldier. Always fighting for what he believed and not afraid to lose a piece of him for it. He brings his eyes back up to mine water making its way out of his dark green eyes. The same colour as you would find on a tree on a hot summers day.
"I can't believe my little girl is getting married!" He says, now on the verge of tears.
"Oh dad don't cry!" I say wrapping my arms around his neck and putting my head in the crock of his neck. He squeezes me tight and then pulls away.
"Anyways before I take you to Matt there's something I wanted to give you." He says placing his arms by his side.
"Um..okay what?" I say looking him in the eye for an trace of fear of any hint to what it could be. He fumbles in his pocket and then produces a letter. It's old and crumpled. He passes it over to me and I take it in both hands. I turn it over and in shock see my mothers handwriting on it.
"What is this?" I ask my father.
"It's your mothers will. She wanted you to have a lot of the stuff she owned. Including her clarinet." I suddenly freeze. My mum had a clarinet? And she hated me playing mine.
"What? But-" I'm cut off by my father.
"She loved you playing, she really did but I'm afraid I'm not the one to tell you why she posed that she hated you playing it. That is up to you to find out Alice. Now let's get you turned into a smith than a Jones hey!" He takes my arm before I have enough time to process what's happened. Before I know it I'm walking up the isle. Somthing I never thought would happen. I look up under my vail and see Matt turn around with the chesseist grin ever on his face. It will always make me laugh and go all mushy when he does that. His eyes are bluer than ever before. Before I know it I'm face to face with him.
"I love you Alice." He says in a whisper.
"I love you too Mathew." I say giggling. And then came the vows
"Do you Matt Smith take Alcie Jones as your wife? Do you promise to treasure her and keep her in your life until you both die?"
Matt looks at me with a sparkle in his eye.
"I do."
"Do you Alice Jones take Matt Smith as your husband and promise to love him and never leave his side?"
I look up at Matt who can't take his eyes off me. I want to save this moment for the rest of my life. Just standing here. About to become wife to this amazing human who had saved me from death. All the memories of first meeting him. The piano, meeting his brother, our first concert. All come flooding back. This angel, this person. Had saved me, looked after me and called me his.
"I do..." I whisper.
"You may kiss the bride." The lady says. I can feel matts lips intently connect with mine. I save this moment. Keeping it locked in my mind to tell me that life does get better. No matter how bad it is it will get better. That's the beauty of little things, thoughts and love that come in and out of your life.
"I now declare you husband and wife!"
I can't wait to tell my kids how lucky they are. How lucky I am. The little things. DO count, as small as they may be they can change your life in ways you never expected.
