All six of us were in a circle, sitting on the floor in Emily's living room, waiting in anticipation to begin the ouija board that was in the middle off us, waiting to be opened.
"Is everyone ready for the ouija?" Luke asked excitedly, he sounded as if he was a kid about to go in a toy shop not a teenage boy about to summon spirits.
"Yeah." The rest of us said together, even though we weren't quite sure if we were ready for what was about to be one of the scariest nights of our lives.
Kylie picked up the box that the board was in, emptying all its contents out onto the floor. I picked up the instructions and quickly scanned my eyes over them, I didn't want anything to be done incorrectly.
"What does it say?" Luke asked, his eyes looking over my shoulder at the wordy piece of paper.
"It says, first make sure all participants are taking the ouija board seriously because this is not a game, next make sure you keep something holy close by to ward of evil spirits, after you summon spirits make sure you always say goodbye or else hold the possibility of being haunted for the rest of your life." I read, my eyes widening.
"It sounds scary." Emily whimpered, nibbling her nails, a bad habit of hers.
"Don't be silly, this is kids stuff." Luke said, receiving a glare from Emily.
"Um there's a warning on here, it says never do an ouija board in anyone's home because the spirits summoned may decide to stay there." It scared me reading this, I thought an ouija board was just some party game for teenagers but according to the instructions it's all real even though it was in the game section of Toys R Us.
"It's kinda raining a lot outside, we can't do it in the garden, let's just do it here. Nothing is going to happen, I doubt we'll even talk to a ghost." Luke suggested.
"Um I'm not sure, this is my house." Emily objected.
"Pretty please." Luke gave Emily puppy eyes.
"Ugh fine, but if any spirits get stuck here you have to get rid of them." Emily gave in, rolling her eyes at the dark haired boy.
"Sorry to interrupt your little lovers argument but do the instructions say anything about how to work this thing?" Logan said picking up one of the objects that came with the ouija board, looking at it with a great deal of confusion.
Luke and Emily both glared at Logan, even though they both dated a while ago they pretty much hated each other now, I guess that was one of the reasons why they broke up.
Luke grabbed the instructions out of my hands and started reading them silently. "Looks easy." He said placing the paper on the floor.
And that's when it started.
The ouija board was placed on the floor and we all sat around it in a circle, since Emily wasn't a very religious person we didn't have anything that was holy so Luke decided to draw a cross on a piece of paper just to be on the safe side. He claimed that it would work, we all believed him.
We used the flash lights on our phones, considering candles were dangerous and we couldn't find any, the eery glow made the dark living room look creepier, everything was in place and it looked great.
I was feeling very nervous, this was the first ouija board I had ever done and I assumed it was everyone else's too, although Luke acted as if he'd done a million before.
"Right, everyone put one of your fingers on the planchette." Luke said calmly.
We all have him a confused look.
"Ugh it's that thing." He said pointing to a wooden heart shaped object with a hole in the middle.
My hands were shaking but I managed to lightly place my finger on the planchette along with the others apart from Emily.
"I- I can't do this." Emily said her voice shaking.
"It's gonna be ok Em, we're all here." Luke placed his free hand on hers trying to comfort her, which I found really cute, I still don't understand why they broke up, they were perfect for each other.
Elliot looked at me concerned, "You ok? You look like your gonna pass out."
"I'll survive." I smiled, a small anxious smile but a smile is a smile.
"What if this goes wrong? What do we do then? Huh?" Kylie asked in a demanding tone.
"If something goes wrong we'll do something when it happens but for now stop worrying nothing's going to happen." Luke spoke confidently.
After a few minutes we all decided it was time to start the ouija board.
"Everyone needs to concentrate." Luke told us.
"Hey, how come your in charge? It's not like you an expert at this." Elliot broke in.
"Oh and you are?" Luke answered sarcastically.
I saw Elliot rolling his eyes, I could tell he didn't like being told what to do, especially by one of his friends.
"Anyway just think about spirits or something." Luke instructed.
We sat in silence, I tried to think about spirits and supernatural things.
"Ready?" Luke whispered to everyone.
"Ready." Logan announced in a loud boisterous voice.
"Ready."Kylie and Emily answered together.
"Ready." Mumbled Elliot who was still pouting.
I stayed silent, was I ready?
"Gabrielle are you ready? You don't have to do this if you don't want to." Elliot whispered sweetly.
"I'm ready...I think." I finally answered.
This is a short story, the chapters aren't going to be that long. Sorry. Also Luke keeps reminding me of Luke Hemmings even though I didn't base it off him, am I being to much of a fangirl?
