(Aleks P.O.V)
6:00 A.M. Colorado Apt. Square.
My dreams about living in a mansion with 175 hot maids were ruined as my alarm clock went off. Just like all humans, I struggled to get up. It was that one day that everyone hates: the first day of school. What makes it worst? It's my first year at a real public school; since I've been home schooled all my life.
Scratching my back, I walked into my bathroom and looked at the beast in my mirror. A mid-height 17 year old with a pair of dull, dark eyes with a hint of black bags under them which stood out because of my pale skin. Your natural walking dead. Let's not forget my hair, which looks like a huge, brown bush as it was sprawled about my head.
I took a long, deep breath and managed a few inspirational words, "This is your first day of public school, how hard can it be?"
After managing such an overused line, I felt that I was going to regret it.
I pulled on a gray tee with a white skull in the center, a good representation of how I felt. I finished the outfit with a pair of black skinny jeans, gray converse, and a white cap that covered the mess upon my head.
After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I stared in the mirror once more. Feeling a little boost in my confidence, I strolled into the kitchen and had my five star meal of cold bowl cereal. I lived alone in an apartment and I didn't have much experience cooking so this was my daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner; either that or T.V. dinners.
When I finished my bowl of cereal, I grabbed my black backpack and I grabbed my car keys on the kitchen table.
As I headed for the door, I felt a little more confident, until I opened the door and the sun's light flew into my eyes; causing me to squint. I acted as if I was burning from the sunlight like a vampire until my neighbor, Mr. Flounder, walked outside.
He spoke to me, "Aleks! Good morning, it's about time you left your room. I was beginning to think you were dead." He finished off his comment with a flashing smile.
His name is Larry Flounder, despite his last name, he isn't half bad looking; for a guy I mean. He looks as if he's in his early 30's and what makes it better, he's a doctor. If I have a sudden heart attack I could depend on him to nurse me back to being healthy; except it wasn't reassuring that he thought I was dead and he didn't think to check on me. I envied his ability to wake up early and maintain such a glorified posture.
I looked at him and managed a weak smile, while squinting, "Being dead wouldn't be as bad as going to public school for the first time."
"I remember my days in school, it isn't half bad, but for you, you might need a little time to adjust with the new language teenagers speak."
Just what I needed. I pretty much stayed home all the time and watched a few shows on my television. Home schooling took away my chances to develop a welcoming communication technique with peers.
Strolling off he said, "Have a good day son!" That's our neighborly relationship, we have a four minute conversation and he calls me son because he has always wanted one.
"The same to you."
As we headed in different directions, I wondered what it was like for Larry in school, he probably had to fight girls off him. Feeling my confidence gain for the last time, I thought, Maybe it wouldn't be half bad for me.
When I got in my car I started the engine and took in one last breath.
I stared in the rear view mirror, "Aleks, It won't be bad, I mean come on, what's the worst that could happen?"
