(Aleks P.O.V)
4:55 P.M. El Chico (Friday)
You can do this! You got this. Max taught you everything you need to know. I can't fail him now.
I was in the kitchen area of El Chico, prepping myself for the test I created myself; I dreaded this moment. I was to host a section of customers by providing them the up most quality service that a waiter could manage; alone. Overall, I was nervous, my teeth were chattering and my mind keep filling itself to the brim with doubts. I dug this grave myself, but I wasn't going to give up without giving it my all at first.
"Are you ready for your test?" Max entered the room.
I shook my head. "I don't know how to react to serving my first customer. I mean, it looks easy for waiters when I am the customer requesting food, but I never really gave it much thought about how the waiter feels when serving until now. Do you ever get nervous?"
"All the time," Max responded with a smile. The smile made the response more conflicted for me.
"I'm truly having a hard time believing you."
He revised his response. "Seriously, I'm nervous all the time when serving a customer. Its kind of like second guessing everything. People may feel confident in their actions but there is always a second thought. Sure, I could smile and serve my customers, but in the end, I feel as if one action or another could have given off a misunderstood reaction. I guess it's because everyone thinks differently."
I was dumbfounded. "I was hoping that would help, but it didn't. Thanks though."
"No problem, I guess," he laughed, "Anyways, just keep a smile and try to think of the best move to make when you approach them."
Renee entered the room with a huge grin. "Okay, well, it's your time to shine Aleks, a few customers were seated at your table. I want to see if you are who you say are. Just to make sure, I gave each one of your customers a review card. One bad review, and you're out!" She finished off her comment with a cackle of a witch.
As if I needed it any worse. "Thanks Renee," I spoke wearily. The two stepped to the side, gesturing with a thumbs up, for me to make my entrance. The closer I got to the door, the more I wanted to retreat. My breaths became shaken, and I could feel my heart beat fasten each step. When I reached the double doors, I let out another struggled breath before swinging them open. My eyes swept swiftly across the section I was to be hosting; the result was horrifying.
Sitting in the far right of my section, was Eddie, James, Jordan, Dan, and Steven; our eyes met instantly. The most devastating of the bunch, was Eddie. I truly didn't expect my hopes to be in the hands of the guy I just had a feud with.
Crap...
I wanted to just stop and evacuate the area immediately, but my feet just kept moving towards them. Remembering Max's tip, a quivering smile crept across my face.
When I reached the table, I braced myself for the worst. "Hi, welcome to El Chicos. I'm your waitress, Aleks. What would you like to drink?"
Crap...
The group immediately burst into laughter. The attention of nearby customers made the stressful moment even worse. I hung my head with mounted depression.
When their laughter began to die out, Jordan requested first, "I'd like a water."
"Same," James and Steven responded simultaneously.
"Tea," Dan requested next.
Eddie, on the other hand, made things difficult. "Well madam, I'd like a coke." The insult was followed by a small laughter.
