 7:56 P.M. Max's Home

I kept my eyes focused on the picture of Max and Kevin laughing together. I rubbed my eyes, feeling as if I was just seeing things.

"I guess that kind of complicates a few things huh?" Max laughed slightly.

I nodded, eyes still focused on the photo. "You know Kevin?"

"Yeah," Max scratched his chin. "We were friends actually."

"Were?"

Max sat down on the sofa. "When we first met near your friend, Eddie's group home, I said I was moving. Specifically, I was moving from two houses over. When Kevin and the others were friends, he would come over and we would just chill. Eventually, when Kevin and Eddie conflicted, I was there to see it happen. I guess afterwards, Kevin believed he shouldn't be my friend or something."

Because he felt guilty over what he said to Eddie, I thought, It's pretty much the same ordeal.

"If you guys knew each other, then why did you both act as if you've never met when they began suspecting you?" I asked. "Kevin even acted as if he has never even known you when I told the group about you."

Max smiled. "Kevin is really good at masking his true feelings. I knew even if I tried to speak to him, we wouldn't even progress to a simple conversation. I decided I would wait until Kevin was ready to speak to me again."

"Wow," I thought aloud, "I didn't know that conflict affected so many people."

"Yeah, well, life isn't always perfect," Max added.

My life for example.

"So," Max stood up, "Now that we are done making matters even more confusing for you, how about we start training."

Max grabbed a few movie cases and balanced them on his hand for my first lesson. "Balance, Time management, and Manners are pretty much the key skills needed to be a good waiter."

Though I kept my eyes on Max and focused on every important key to being a good waiter, my sympathy for Kevin was making it difficult for me to maintain my attention.

I  won't fail to solve the problem this time! Kevin deserves to be happy.

7:34 A.M. Colorado High

I arrived at school, feeling the need to lay on the ground and close my eyes for deep slumber. Max taught me the most important lessons on being a waiter; or at least what he thought I would struggle with the most. The lesson went on for hours; due to my incapability to learn things quickly.

I felt all eyes on me as usual; except this time it was different. No one was staring at me because of my new reputation as the school asshole, but the gray shirt I tossed on with a pair of blue jeans. Making matters even worse, I decided to put on red converse which was complimented by my mix match socks. Today wasn't the best day so far.

"What's with the outfit?" James asked. "You really need a new style or something."

I was too tired to even attempt thinking of a comment that would only fail within a matter of seconds. James was the undefeated champion when it came to insulting a person.

I nodded in response.

"You didn't get enough sleep last night?"

"Nope," I spoke this time, "I spent all night learning how to be a good waiter."

James winced. "A good waiter? You actually got a job?"

"Yep, well, kind of. I'm going to be tested tomorrow. I want to repay my debt to a friend."
