"Liberty palabas na tayo ng Baguio..."
Frantic.
A word that can perfectly describe me in the beginning of the story. Who wouldn't be? First week of classes in your new university. You were kicked out from the previous one, because your effort was lacking. But you already gave your all! How can I surpass it when it was already my best...
"You were saying?" she mouthed.
"Bababa na ako sabi ko!" I shouted as Dua Lipa's song plays in the car she's driving.
"Georgina Rolene Torres, relax!"
"Si Liberty nga may practicals bukas. Louisian medtech pa yan."
"Truths! Knowing na may eviction sila, tignan mo naman si bakla pang three days outfit pa ang dala."
"Kayang kaya naman niya yun." I whispered.
Liv looked at me with surprise in her face and she was about to laugh.
"Sa college, kahit gaano ka pa katalino at kasipag, kung yung prof mo parang ginagawang dice ang grades, wala din. I still have the probability of failing my classes but here I am enjoying my youth!"
It was that Saturday night in my first year in Baguio as a 3rd year transferee accountancy student. Liv said that every Saturday night we will party to unwind, and during Sundays we will study together.
"Girls, this is where Baguio students usually spend their free time and weekends." I averted my gaze to the signage going San Fernando, conveying my unrelenting doubt about this.
"A lot can happen in college. But do not let stress be the only thing we can remember in the future. I want good memories. But of course we'll have limitations."
Limitations. Boundary. Extent. Funny how these words can sometimes make you limitless. It gives you the urge to do more.
"Ewan ko sayo Liv. Kapag mga ganitong one time big time na gala, dapat sinasagad! All in na kumbaga. Give it your all!"
Cliche friendship story. Once upon a time you meet two friends. One who was named Liberty, but she was never free. She's definite, never boundless. The other one was France. A happy go lucky friend who you should not listen to. Or else you'll end up like me.
"Naghihintay na si Jun sa kainan. Baka may kinakain na si bakla don!"
"Sarap kumain mamaya, lalo na kapag hakdog..."
"Chicken na hakdog! Brown linamnam!"
I smiled when reminiscing the days we were just babbling about nonsense things. It's depressing how these can be so rare now...and sensitive.
"Halata ba na tatlong patong yung bra ko?"
"Wala naman nakakaalam dito na flat chested ka kaya keri lang France."
After resting in our airbnb rented house, we went straight to the party. The place was so crowded and loud that we barely hear each other. I was wearing a black tube dress in knee length perfectly hugging my body. Junjun did my make up, and I told him to put a light one, but he made my eyes smokey, I was surprised it looked natural in me.
"Ben and ben will be playing tonight. I'm... I don't know, excited?"
"Liv alam mo naman na hindi si tito mo Ben ang pinunta ko dito." Jun kidded as we spoiled our eyes with the beautiful view of attractive men walking everywhere.
