A Curse

"So I've been getting these notes for the past month or so. Not that many since I was in a coma-like-state in between and all but anyway. They have told me to do some different things or told me not to do others. In the first note I got the information I could tell four people about them and I already have told two. Lauren and Alex was with me when I read it and obviously I told them." I paused for a moment to take a sip from my cocoa. "But it said I can't tell an adult, but now you know. What do I do about that?"

"Well technically it wasn't you who told me." Mimosa speaks slowly, thinking of every word she says.

"Who? Please can you tell me?" I plead.

"First tell me what you were concerned about. Then I might." Mimosa smiled encouragingly.

"Well in the newest note the writer hinted towards who was writing them."

"What did they write?" Mimosa wonders.

"They spoke about going through the competition not knowing anything and handling the stress which the writer and some other group didn't get any help with. They promised they would help me with everything like how to use my magic and everything. But wouldn't this mean they're the past Mysteries? But the only one alive anymore is the queen I think? And the writer spoke very warmly about you, calling you a darling angel and said they missed you really much. That couldn't be the queen writing could it? Who could the writer and their friends be?" I'm so confused.

"Actually, it is the last Mystery that is writing to you. The queen and the other Mysteries want to help you. You don't deserve their fate." Well at least I knew who wrote to me. But how could dead people be alive?

"But how is that possible? Aren't they dead?" It's getting even more confusing for every word.

"Yes, but in the other dimension they can live on as ghosts. If they ever come to this dimension they will disappear for ever. I'm happy the queen misses me as much as I miss her." Mimosa looks suddenly extremely sad.

"What happened? May I ask?" I ask carefully, not knowing if I should just stay quiet or ask about it.

"It's okay for you to ask. It's a long story but I'll try to tell you the short version. So you know the queen was found by the king who was the prince of the last Mystery and his queen. The prince had fallen in love with her but she didn't even notice. She..." I could see this was hard for Mimosa to remember but she wanted to tell it never the less. "She fell in love with a simple girl who worked at the palace. They had the sweetest, best relationship, until the prince found out. It was soon time for the queen to find someone to marry. She told everyone in the palace she wanted to marry the girl and even proposed. But the prince turned everyone on them and made up a law that there had to be a king and queen, not two queens or two kings. He forced the queen to marry him and put a curse on the girl. He put her to work in the palace so that she would have to see him and the queen live happily ever after. He told the queen the girl had died and so that the queen would not recognize the girl when she worked in the palace..." Mimosas eyes teared up and she had to pause. "The prince cursed me so that whenever I was in the palace or the other dimension I would look like an old woman, like a grandma." The tears fell.

"Mimosa, I didn't know! How horrible! How can someone be so narrow minded and hateful and jealous?" I stood up went to hug her. She grabbed my shirt tightly and squeezed me to her chest. She pressed a bit too hard for my comfort since the cut was still so fresh but I didn't say anything, Mimosa needed the hug. "Hey Mimosa?"

"Yeah?" She let me go and I sat down again.

"Do you think you could deliver this note to the queen?" I quickly scribbled a few lines on a piece of paper. "And wait a moment, I'll reverse the curse and curse the king instead. Explain everything to the queen. I will handle the king when I'm brought to the palace." Mimosas eyes were big as saucers.

"Can you do that?" She asked, unable to believe her ears.

"I will at least try." I smiled and concentrated harder than ever.
