I slipped through the trees, hoping I lost the walkers who were on my tail for the last five minutes. I wandered away from my bag and crossbow, only carrying my knife, stupid mistake.

I lost my knife in the first walker I killed and didn't have time to stand around and retrieve it. Not looking back I sprinted towards my bag that was now in view, perched on a tree branch. I looked up the tree and prepared to climb it.

Before I even took my first step something grabbed me and pulled me towards it. Suppressing my scream, I stared into the undead eyes of a large male walker. The other walkers came into view moaning at the sight of finally finding their food. I tried to kick the large walker away but it was no use, he stumbled back a bit but kept his tight grip on me.

This was it, this was how I was going to die. I kept kicking and trying to get away, not wanting to give in so easily to the thought of being eaten by walkers. Just as the walker was about to take a bite out of my arm and the other walkers were almost in reach of me an arrow went through the walkers temple. I fell onto my butt as the pressure was let off of my arms. More arrows flew and pierced the walkers eyes and forhead. I scrambled away from them, terrified of what almost happened. I've never been so careless, one stupid mistake almost got me killed.

"Ya gonna get up?" I was so paralyzed with fear that I didn't notice someone standing in front of me. I looked forward at the boots and dirty jeans, I looked higher to see a man in his cut off shirt, shaggy brown hair, and hard blue eyes.

I composed myself and stood up staring into the eyes of the man who just saved my life. He was rough looking, to say the least. I could tell he was a hunter and probably a good one at that.

Neither of us said anything, we just stared at each other, studying one another. I held my ground and stayed on guard, you never know with people these days.

"Thanks." I finally let out and turned my back to him. Grabbing my things off the tree branch I swung my crossbow over my back and walked away from him.

"Where are ya goin?" He called walking quickly towards me. I stopped and shrugged.

"No clue."

"I got a group about a mile out, my brother and I, and maybe twenty others, I think." Was he asking me to be apart of his group? More people meant more ways of getting hurt.

"Men like yourself?" I halfway joked giving him a small smile. He grunted and shook his head.

"Women and kids too."

I hesitated before replying "How do I know I can trust you?"

He didn't say anything at first, but then he shrugged "You don't, but it sure beats hanging out around here waitin for more geeks to show up." I had to agree with the strange man, being in a group means more protection. Plus a little human interaction would be nice.

"Lead the way." I finally said watching him take the lead, I grabbed my bag, my crossbow, and followed.

I wanted to say something to him, but I didn't want to make a fool of myself. Besides he didn't strike me as the talkative type.

"Here, I found this." He said loudly and walked away into one of the two small tents set up away from everyone else. I stared wide eyed at a group of people giving me the same expression.

"Uh, Hi?" I stood awkwardly waiting for someone to say something.

"Hi, I'm Lori Grimes, this is my son Carl, who are you?" A pretty women smiled at me and stood in front of me pulling her son towards her, waiting for an answer.

"I'm Samantha Winter" I replied, hopefully loud enough for everyone to hear. "Call me Sam."

Next a tan man with a large nose walked up to me and put out his hand for me to shake.

"Shane, nice to meet you Sam. You any good with a gun?" He asked staring down at me, I had to be a whole head shorter than him.

"I'm good with a gun, knife, and bow." I shrugged hoping that was a good enough answer.

"Welcome to the group." Shane winked at me and then walked off. I rolled my eyes but said thanks as Lori pulled me into their camp to introduce me to everyone.

"I'm Morales, this is my wife Miranda and my two children Eliza and Louis." I nodded in their direction and looked at the Korean guy walking towards me.

"I'm Glenn, it's nice to meet you." He genuinely smiled at me, my heart sunk a little bit. These people were so friendly, how can they be so welcoming. Don't they know what's out there? Don't they know what people have turned in to? And I'm not just talking about the walkers. I smiled back at him and replied with a "You too."

"That up there is Dale."Lori pointed to an older man on top of the Rv. We waved to each other and continued on. Next two pretty blonde girls walked up and I introduced themselves and Andrea and Amy. "That's Jacqui and over there is Jim and T -Dog."

A lady and her little girl came walking towards us. The lady smiled warmly at me and said her name was Carol and her daughters name was Sophia. She pointed in the direction of a large angry looking man and smiled, a smile I knew all to well. "That's my husband Ed." She excused herself and walked quickly over to him.

"He's not very nice, I'd stay clear of him."

I agreed and looked towards the tent where the man who saved my life resided.

"Who was the guy who brought me here?" I asked curiously, pulling my eyes off of his tent and toward the RV.

"Daryl Dixon, him and his brother Merle aren't to friendly either, they help with hunting though so we can't really complain. Merle is the worst stay away from him."

I nodded not really caring, I don't like people telling me what to do.

Shane walked up to us, giving me a smirk that would make most girls swoon. I just kind of wanted to punch him in the face or puke. Is that mean? Yes. Anger issues? Maybe.

I smiled and thanked Lori and Shane, there was obviously something going on there, but I didn't know if everyone else knew that. He wasn't Carl's father, that much was for sure.

"It'll be nice to have another women around, do you mind helping with cooking and laundry from time to time?" I scrunched up my face, Lori and Shane laughed at me.

"I'm guessing you're a hunting, going on runs, and killing things kind of girl." He smiled, maybe Shane wouldn't be so bad after all. Just maybe, we'll still have to see about these people. You can't really judge someone by a first glance and a meet & greet.

"Oh yes." I agreed eagerly making him chuckle some more.

"It'll be nice to have another fighter around." He said before walking off. Lori scoffed at me and I could tell from this point on we wouldn't get along about my place in this group. I'm not a cooking girl, I'm a killing the food you want to cook girl. I thought that was pretty obviously by my black pants, combat boots, and white t-shirt. I usually had on a black leather jacket but it's pretty toasty outside now. Plus it's in my bag along with a couple more pairs of clothes, underwear, another bra, some hair ties, knives, arrows, an extra gun, and a few other things.

"Where can I sleep?" I asked pushing my hair out of my face.

"Well the only space in the tents is in..." She trailed off and looked towards Daryls tent making us both frown. Great, at least it wasn't Shane.
