The Guardians of Forever

It was another boring day watching the cosmos.

"Good Morning Guardian.....anything to report?"

I turned to address the first technician.

"Are you taking the piss?"

She laughed at me.

"You love using this earthly colloquialisms don't you....I detest them of course"

"What do you expect.....we are Guardians of the Galaxy.....nothing ever happens......this everlasting existence of ours can be quite boring at times"

"I know.........unfortunately I have to ask the question".

"Yes but try not to do it with such a smug expression on your face"

I read the panel....it was at zero.....actually all the readings were at zero.....nothing ever happened.

"I will be back later.....just in case"

"Ok.....if you want to waste your time"

She laughed and left the room.

As a being with the power of pure thought I could conjure images from imagination and in that instant I was staring at a square object in my hand.....it was lightweight and covered with a screen...there was a button on its side and I pressed it.

"Amazon Kindle.....welcome to your online portal"

I smiled at the simplicity of it all......I had passed the millennia away by indulging in some old fashioned reading...lets see what they have.

"Digitally remastered.....in its original word length.....War and Peace"

I chose this book.......as memory would serve me, it was a very large book and would waste a few years at least.

Just as I began to operate it and read the introduction.....a red light twinkled at me......could be a routine error.....we had plenty of those....I put down the kindle and walked across.

It was not an error.

This was serious.

With the power of thought I summoned the technician to return and in the blink of an eye she was here.

"What is it ?"

"See for yourself"

Her expression turned to horror and then the corners of her mouth rose in a smile.

"After so long.....a real emergency.....at last!"

"What is it?"

"Someone has breached the barriers between two existences"

"But that's impossible......where does it originate?"

"Earth solar system.....time zone 21st Century"

"They don't possess the means to do this"

"True but don't forget how much the Earth had changed....the fiasco with Immigration brought in several new races.....Vampires, Werewolves, Shapeshifters, Witches....to name but a few"

"And you think that one of these is responsible?"

"It would seem so.....this is serious.....we need to refer this to the supreme council".
