"I want to hide the truth. I want to shelter you, but with the beast inside there's nowhere we can hide. No matter what we breed, we still are made of greed. This is my kingdom come. This is my kingdom come." - Demons by Imagine Dragons

Chapter 29

Christy's POV

The feeling was exhilarating. The gun was firmly gripped in my hand as I pulled the trigger, hitting the ear of corn that was my target. I couldn't help myself as I smiled widely. After watching people in the movies and TV shows shoot these things, now I was the one doing it too. It made me feel so powerful, like I could do anything. Like I could take down anyone, hopefully Andrew.

"Nice. I think you're getting the hang of it." Mikey chuckled from behind me.

"You think?" I smiled, turning myself towards him. He was leaning against the back of the car with his arms crossed.

"Yup," He stood up straight and walked closer to me. "Andrew will never see you coming."

The smile that was plastered on his face was genuine and sweet. Right now, he was my partner in crime; my only friend. And he was the only person I had to lean on. The person who could help me get Harry back.

"Mikey, thank you for doing this." I whispered, fiddling with my fingertips.

"No problem." He said, a hint of laughter in his voice.

"I just need Harry back with me. I need to know he's okay." I said, haunting thoughts swirling in my mind. I couldn't let myself think anything bad, but my mind wouldn't listen. Knowing Andrew's connections with the police, he could be seriously injured or worse.

Stop thinking like this, Christy! He's okay.... He has to be.

"I know what you mean, Christy." Mikey knocked me out my thoughts. "He's been my best friend since we were kids. It's always been my job to protect him and everytime he gets in trouble, I feel guilty because I made a promise. A promise that nothing would happen to him as long as I'm alive." Mikey's face looked pained, full of guilt.

"Mikey, none of this is your fault. If anything, it's mine." I whispered, stepping closer to him.

"How?"

Silence swayed between us before I responded. "If I hadn't run away from Andrew, he wouldn't of contacted Harry and Harry could still be living his life. Instead, I pulled him back into a life he ran away from, all for selfish reasons."

"Andrew was killing you. You had every right to run and it was Harry's decision to get back in this life." I looked into his eyes, boaring into mine. "He did it for you because he loves you. No matter what anyone says, he'll jump in front of a bullet for you."

The tears were now welling in my eyes, the lump swelled in my throat and I couldn't swallow it down. I was on the verge of a break down. Mikey could tell I was upset. He pulled me towards him, engulfing me tightly in a warm hug. One of his hands stroked my hair, soothing me as the tears suddenly ran down my cheeks and sobs broke from my cracked lips.

"Hey, hey." He shushed me. "Everything's going to be okay and we're going to get him back... I promise you that." He whispered quietly.

...

Harry's POV

I was sleep deprived. I hadn't slept at all. I was hungry and tired, but no matter how heavy my eyes felt or how loud my stomach grumbled, I was staying strong. I was going to find a way to get out of here to be with Christy. I couldn't let anything happen to her; it was a promise I had made to myself when I found out who she was; when I found out that she was stuck in the same trap I was not too long ago. That was the thing about Andrew. He traps people. Sucks them in so far deep and so close to him that you get stuck; that the only way to escape is to chew off your own arm.
