Erin's POV

"You're telling me,"I seconded.

"So," Jay started, "this confirms it. You really are a living miracle."

"No I'm not. You're just really good at exaggerating," I countered.

"Really, cause from what I just heard you probably shouldn't be alive right now, let alone talking and waiting to be cleared for full duty in less than 24 hours."

I took a moment to consider this. Jay is right, I at least shouldn't be talking. Or have my eyes open. Or have full comprehension of what's happening around me. But I do. So yeah, maybe I really am a miracle.

"I probably shouldn't be," I whispered, then looked at Jay with haunted eyes and continued in a horrified tone "but if I was stuck in here then who would drive you around?"

Alex's POV

I woke up to the smell of hand sanitizer and the feel of someone shaking my shoulder.

"Alex," I heard.

"Alex," heard again.

Ugh, can't people just leave a girl whose sleeping on a really really uncomfortable bench in a hospital waiting room alone?

Wait a minute. Hospital? Sleeping?

"ALEX!" I jumped.

I finally open my eyes to see Grandpa Hank shaking my shoulder and yelling my name. I finally sit up and look around in my still sleep disoriented state. Grandpa sees my confusion and is quick to tell me that mom got shot- when he does I remember what happened, where I'm at, and why. Then he tells me that as of right now there is no update on her condition for us, but dad did just go back to see her.

I take a deep breath, semi-relived that I didn't miss anything but still worried about mom. My worrying wakes me up enough to realize that grandpa and I are not the only ones in the waiting room. All of intelligence is here, and their families too. Everyone from firehouse 51 is here- truck, ambo, squad, all of them. In addition there is some officers from the district- Kim and Nadia and Platt and some other officers I don't know but have seen talking to mom. And the biggest surprise of all is that all of the students who where 'shadowing' intelligence as well are all here with their families. Wow. Mom has a TON of people who care about her.

I start to think some more, then I remember that Hank is trying to get an answer about something out of me, so I look back to him and dumbly answer, "what?"

"For the fifth time, what do you want to eat, Smith ran into the city to get something. And we don't know anything about Erin yet."

*sigh*"Um, I'm not hungry right now, thanks"

Grandpa looked at me again and sighed, then pulled out his phone to text someone. I'm pretty sure it's to tell Smith to get me something even though I just said I wasn't hungry, but before I can ask Eva and Kenzie, my two best friends who are here because Eva is Antonio's daughter and Kenzie was 'shadowing' as well, come over and sit down on the bench next to me.

"Well good morning, Sleeping Beauty," Eva jokes.

I roll my eyes and smile vaguely at them.

"Oh come on, I haven't been out that long...have I?"

"Yup, you have," Kenzie pipes up, "it's been about 3 hours and 4 minutes, in case you were wondering. You were really cute sleeping though, the way you were all curled up on your dad and grandpa's laps."
