Part 2

I looked at Jay. I could not believe the words that were coming out of commanders mouth. A bunch of kids, young KIDS were going to shadow us. Did anyone upstairs have any idea how dangerous our job really is?! And they want children to do it. And nonetheless kids from Alex's school. No doubt she'll wanna do this and how can I tell her no, I don't want her to-I don't want her in that danger-but I was already shadowing Voight at her age. I'm starting to freak myself out so much that I haven't heard a word that Commander had said in the past couple minutes and I'm now staring daggers at Jay. I shake my head to clear it and start paying attention again

C- " ...there will be an informational meeting about this at the school tomorrow night, where students and their parents that are interested will be introduced to you all and can ask any questions and voice concerns that they have. Also in attendance at this meeting will be the school staff that will be with the students at all times. That is all, I will see you tomorrow night."

I still don't believe what just happened. Everyone was staring at me, waiting for me to explode or something. I just got up and walked to the locker room with Halstead close behind. When we get to the locker room we check to make sure no one is there and close the door once we find it empty.

I sink down onto a bench facing Jay with a panicked/scared/tired look on my face. Jay looks at me with a similar look and pulls me to him

J-"What're you thinking?"

E-"I don't know. I know she'll want too, she's said that she does. But I'm just so scared and worried something will happen to her. I mean they're just kids and commander said they'll be doing our jobs? That's just not-"

J-" Wait a minute? You think they'll be on the field with us?"

E-" That's what she just said, isn't it?"

J-" No, she didn't say that at all"

E-" But she said they're going to shadow us"

J-"Then she went on to explain that the kids are just gonna be in the bullpen observing everything through cameras and mics that Mouse is gonna work onto out coats, vests, things we wear everyday."

I pulled back to look Jay in the eyes, my hands  still holding his biceps as he ran his hands comfortingly up and down my back.

E-"So they're not actually going into the field?"

J-"No, they're staying in the bullpen where they'll be safe"

A look of pure relief flooded My face as I looked down at the bench we are sitting on and calmed down a little.

E-" I guess I missed that part cause I was too busy freaking out" I said looking up and laughing a little.

Jay laughed a little too and pulled me back to him, and kissing the top of my head he heard me mumble

E-"If the wrong person sees Alex or any of those other kids walking in here then that puts those kids in danger too"

J-" I know. But Alex is in the same amount of danger, more even, just by being associated with us. At least if she's here we can keep a better eye on her. "

E-*sighs* "Your right. You seem strangely ok with this?"

J-"I am and I'm not. I'm not because I'm worried and scared like you are, I mean it's Alex, I can't let anything happen to her. But I am because I know that if I had this chance when I was her age I would jump at it."

E-"Why do you have to be right and so understanding all the time?"

J-" Because I'm the best. And for that, I should get to drive"
Jay flashed his million dollar smile as I shoved him and got off the bench

E-"You wish" I  said smiling.

J-"I do. "

Jay got off the bench and followed me as we walked out the door and back to the bullpen to finish another uneventful day.

Erin's POV
Jay and I walked in the door to our house and put our keys down

"ALEX!!" I yelled

"In here!" She called from the dining room

Jay went ahead of me as I stopped to take my boots off and put them in the closet.

"Uh oh, you want something" I heard Jay say as I walked through the foyer, through the living room and past the kitchen to the dining room. I stopped in my tracks when I see the sight before me. Alex Halstead. At the table before 8:30 pm had not only made what appears to be a delicious dinner but was also doing homework before we got home. That never happens.

A(Alex)-"What not 'Hi, Hello, how was your day?' I'm offended,dad. You think I can't just do something nice cause I want to? "

Jay and I looked at each other then both turned to cock an eyebrow at her.

"No. " we both say at the same time.

A-"Jeez, you make me sound like a bad kid. I can do something nice just because I want to. Maybe This is all to say 'Thanks mom and dad, love you'. But now that you mention it...there is this-"

J-*holds hand up motioning for her to stop while him and I move to sit down across from Alex* "I bet we already know what it is"

A-" Well that would make sense considering it's your unit. But why didn't you tell me?"

E-" We just found out today. Apparently Commander had no say in the matter and figured she'd just not tell us till the last possible minute because she knows that we would've found a way out of it."

A-"So now we're all on the same page...what'd you think?"

Jay looks at me a once again and raises an eyebrow while I briefly look at the ceiling, my thoughts still battling inside of me. I can feel Alex's eyes on me waiting for an answer. I tear my eyes from the ceiling and look her dead in the eye.

E-"You really want to do this?"

A-"*answers with a hopeful look and tone*" Yes! So so so much."

I look back at Jay to make sure we're on the same page. He looks back at me and slightly nods yes.

E-"If you really want to, then okay."
