DPTMA Chapter 21 - Chasing Rainbow Butterflies

Song: Troye Sivan - Wild

-Thanatos-

I leaned back and watched Ethan chase around the rainbow butterflies Blaine had created for him. I was still so confused as to how all of this happened. I mean, one second, Blaine is just your average mortal-turned-reaper and the next, he was some sort of faerie-reaper hybrid with creepy yet awesome abilities he had supposedly inherited from the faeries. How was that not supposed to confuse the hell out of me?

"How are you doing that?" I finally asked as I watched him send more butterflies Ethan's way.

He shrugged, never taking his eyes away from the strange puppy-like creature before us. "I did it by accident the first time and he loved it, so I kept trying until I could do it at will. It keeps him calm, which, in turn, keeps everyone else calm - something that works to the advantage of all of us."

"Still creepy," I muttered to myself, thinking more of Ethan than anything.

Blaine fixed me with a heated glare. "Well, exca-use me for being a little different," he sassed.

I sighed and shook my head. "Darling, that's not what I meant and I'm pretty sure you know it."

He cocked any eyebrow. "Oh, really? Please, do tell, what was it you meant then?"

I paused, trying to figure out how to word it so I wouldn't be shoving my foot even farther down my throat. "Well, I guess- Oh, the hell with it! I'm having a hard time figuring out how to feel about your new gifts! That make sense to you?" I snapped, frustrated at my inability to find my supposedly infinite vocabulary.

I almost snorted at that. Infinite, indeed. I had used the same words so many times since I met Blaine that I had actually lost track.

He sighed and tilted his head ot the side. "Well, that makes two of us," he said softly.

I did a double take, just barely comprehending his words. "Really? But you seem so calm about it all."

"But I'm not. I have been internally panicking this entire time. Trust me, nothing scares me more than all of the things I have learned about myself in the last week - this newest set of little surprises at the very top of the list."

I chuckled lowly. "I honestly can't blame you. It's got to be hard to handle everything being thrown at you all at once."

"Yes, but that is what we are here for," Rasalynne cut in as she re-entered the throne room, this time accompanied by my father, Elder Kowski, and. . . My mother?

I panicked a little bit at the sight of both of my parents, scared that things would not go over very well.

Ethan took notice of the new people in the room and scampered over to Blaine's side, parking his butt right in between the newcomers and my little spitfire.

Mother faultered at the sight of Ethan, horrified disgust written all over her face. Obviously, she hadn't been made aware of Ethan's existence.

"What. . . is that?" She asked slowly, pointing at Ethan.

Blaine looked down at Ethan and blew a little bit of rainbow air his way to distract him. He looked back up as his pet played with the crystalline rainbow cloud floating in his hair and around his head.

Mother and Father stopped short at the sight and Blaine decided it was time to speak up. "This," he paused and motioned at the boy next to him, "is Ethan. Say hello, Ethan."
