"Are you and Nathan together?" Simon inquired quietly as we entered the empty locker room.
"No," I defended. "What makes you think that?" I tried my best to be convincing. Yes, I liked him but I was afraid to make any moves. I can't handle rejection well. Especially Nathan's rejection. And to be honest, I wasn't exactly sure how I felt about him. I was still on the fence.
"Because last night when he dropped you off, I saw him kiss you on the cheek."
"He didn't. He tried to though. You're watching me now?" I asked, jokingly.
He smirked and said "Well, we do live in the same house and I wanted to know who was at the door."
"Fair." I walked into the bathroom to go change into my jumpsuit while Simon remained by his locker. I didn't hear Kelly walk in so I felt free with my thoughts. Whenever she was around, I tried to think good, non-offensive thoughts. But before I knew she was there, I was busy going over in my head the little things Nathan has done to me that would help to prove that he had feelings for me. The way he looks at me. The way he speaks and jokes with me. The way he-
"You like him, yeah?" Kelly asked, scaring the hell out of me with a look on her face that said "He's mine but I'm just gonna act like nothing's wrong and smile."
"Oh my god! Were you here the whole time?!"
"Uh yeah."
"Just, please stay out of my head." I left the locker room swiftly to go somewhere else where I could be alone with my thoughts. As I was walking down the hall, I saw Sally settling into her office that day and it sent chills through my veins. She was dead a few days ago. And now she's not. I was also still confused as to why Sam showed up yesterday twice after her and Curtis had broken up. Maybe she was trying to get back together with him but it was no use.
All 7 of us were outside scrapping paper off of the walls when Sally walked past us to re-enter the center. Of course the naive Simon dropped everything and quickly followed after her.
"Simon!" I stopped him. "Don't."
"I'm going to see if she's ok."
"Since when do you care if she's ok?" He didn't answer and instead looked down and followed after her. "Stupid."
We continued scraping away when Nathan goes "Do you hear that?"
"Hear what?" Kelly asked.
"A baby crying."
"Oh no Nathan. Can you please just let it go? You sound like a major pervert right now."
"No I'm serious!" He continued cleaning when his head jerked in different directions, looking up around him.
"Are you on bath salts?" Alisha asked. He dropped everything and ran to go search for the mysterious crying that only he heard.
"Nathan!" I called to him. "Nathan!" I chased after him for who knows why. But he somehow was faster than me so I didn't know which way he ran once we entered the community center. I saw Simon sitting on a chair as if he was waiting for something. Just as I was about to ask Simon what he was doing there, Nathan came running with a baby in arms only to turn and run away from us.
"You go tell the others!" I demanded as I chased after Nathan, fearing what idiotic things he would do with the baby. "Nathan stop!" He burst through the doors of the community center and went running through the alleyways around the flats that surrounded it. "Nathan!" I was out of breath and stopped running just when the 5 others caught up behind me.
