Kevin's P.O.V

I tried not to let a laugh slip from my lips. But when she glared harder at me, I knew I had failed.

I couldn't be blamed though. The sight was amusing! Sabienne's hands were crossed and her lips were tightly pressed together. She looked furious.

"You know you wanted to sit here." I smirked at her. She kept her eyes focused ahead, ignoring my teasing comment.

"Okay." I smiled trying not to laugh again. "So where are you headed?"

She quickly gave me the direction and I thanked her. The place she was headed was a small Ice Cream restaurant, and it wasn't really close. The place was like another twenty minutes away. So she was expecting to walk all the way there under this rain?!

I'm happy I came along 'cause this girl was obviously kinda crazy. Most likely, she would have gotten really sick.

Sabienne was silent throughout the whole car ride. I was hoping she would say something, because it was getting really uncomfortable. I didnt really like uncomfortable silence, especially in car rides. But I could tell she was really shy, so I wasn't going to force her.

But then she broke the uncomfortable silence.

"Umm...you like football?" Sabienne suddenly blurted out. I kept my hands on the wheel and gave her a side glance.

"Yeah, I do." I chuckled.

She slapped her forehead and groaned. "That's not what I was trying to say. I mean...of course you like football. I mean, you play it! So why wouldn't you like it?! It just blurted out my mouth... I was just tryin' to make...conversation...and..." She rambled on and then took a deep breath, ready to say some more.

"Sabienne, shut up." I said. She looked at me and I could see she was embarrassed. She looked away, and I could see a look of hurt pass in her dark brown eyes. Immediately, I regretted my words.

"Sabienne, I didn't mean it that way." I said. "You were rambling, and I could tell you were nervous and that's why I said that. I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to tell you to really shut up. I didn't mean to hurt you or anything.-"

"Kevin?" She interrupted me.

"Yeah?"

"Shut up."

I looked at her with shock. Even if I barely knew this girl, she didn't seem like someone I could expect boldness from. Even this little amount I just received. She gave me a big wide smile, and I couldn't help but smile back.

"You're a little smartie pants, aren't you?"

She laughed. "Well, that's not very true. I have like only four honors classes."

"And you're not smart?" I asked with my eyebrows raised.

"I have four honor classes. That's not that good. It's okay but not something my parents are proud of." She said.

"Then your parents need a reality check. For a sophomore, that's really good." I said, shrugging.

Her eyes flashed me a look of shock then disappointment, then to hurt. Sh*t, what did I say now?

She quickly gave me a small laugh. But, I could tell it was fake. "I'm not a sophomore. I'm a Junior...like you." She says, still laughing.

Shit, shit, shit, shit!!! I always said the wrong thing!!!!

"Oh!" I said, staring straight at the road ahead. "I didn't...know. I mean, I never saw you at the Junior assemblies, or school pograms. And..I'd never had you in my classes. I'm sorry, I didn't know."

Sabienne looked down at her nails. "Yeah." She simply said. I knew I shouldn't have expected her to forgive me so quick. And she shouldn't have to forgive me quick either. I sounded so ignorant. But to my defense, I really had never seen her before. Well, until yesterday. I was so busy with football and school and other things, I didn't really have time to get know everyone at school.

But, man, I could have been a little bit more considerate.

For the rest of the car ride, we didn't say anything to each other. It was silent until we reached her job, and she got out quickly after muttering a "thank you." She didn't even see me nod. She was so ready to get out.

I sighed and drove out the little restaurant's parking lot.

I headed to my own work place. It was a little barber shop, and I could see that there was a lot of people inside today. Man, Robert was gon' kill me for being late. I checked my watch. I was twenty minutes late.

I stepped in and everyone's attention turned to me. My boss and also uncle, Robert, gave me a glare.

"Why are you late?" Robert asked.

I scratched my head nervously. "I was dropping a girl off at work." I said.

"Oh, I see." He smirks at me, making the others inside laugh. I rolled my eyes.

"It's not like that. She ain't even my type." I rolled my eyes.

Robert laughed at my relpy. "Well, my wife wasn't my type."

"Wow!" I said. "Too personal!"

I've heard this story too many times.

One of my other uncles who also worked in the little shop, Charlie, spoke out. "I'mma make sure to tell Sharlette that!" He smirked at Robert.

Robert rolled his eyes and focused his attention on his customer's hair. "Oh, she knows."

I laughed at my crazy uncle then took another customer to a chair. Well, Robert was playing around. I liked Sabienne and I could see us becoming acquaintances. Or maybe even friends, if she was willing to get more comfortable around me. But I didn't see her the way Robert thought I did. Sabienne definitely was not my type.
