Love at first sight? I don't think so.
So earlier I was watching Mission Impossible Two. You know that scene where the spy person chases the spy girl in the first 45 minutes of the movie? The one where he kisses her and then wakes up with her even though they have only known each other for less than 24 hours? That got me thinking. (I got bored with the movie about 15 minutes after this scene.)
About Instant Love/Insta-Love.
So in a lot of books today, the romance seems to move too fast. This makes it come off as forced. It's like the author decided that they really want these two characters together, but they left out the get-to-know-you stage. It doesn't make sense.it takes away from the quality of the book. One book I read, the plot seemed really cool, but then the authorities threw in a romance. Normally I would be fine with a romance. However, when the characters are saying that they love each other by Chapter Five, the plot is ruined. After Chapter Five, I was so bored with the book that I didn't finish it, which is something I normally would never do. Same kind of thing with another book series happened as well. A really good plot, only to have the characters say that they love each other even though they met in Chapter 5. Another book series that had Insta-Love was also cliched.
What some modern day authors don't seem to realize is that a few bonding moments in the course of five chapters isn't enough for a real, well written romance to form.
Moving on to Wattpad Insta-Love.
So I went through a phase where I read almost every Hunger Games Fan-fiction, including the Cato/Katniss ones. With 98% of these, the romance was Insta-Love. Basically, you had Katniss break down about something and run into the roof, where she meets Cato. Cato comforts her and they kiss. Two chapters later, they are already saying that they love each other.
Side note: there are a few Cato/ Katniss fanfics that do NOT have Insta-Love.
Insta-Love seems to have taken over many book series. Basically, don't make it seemed rushed. Let the characters get to know each other. Slowly let the romance build up. Let the friend zone build. Don't ruin a good plot by rushing things. Because if you do, your book will be sitting on a shelf gathering dust, being deleted from a
person's library, and having many readers dislike your book.-Ayden
Since school starts in five days (so nervous) for me, updates might be slow.
