When Kei and I had finally arrived at the cave I sent the Menos away to find its herd again. I walked over to the entrance and slid through the tree roots, walking over to my little bed and letting Kei slide off my head and onto the soft cushion of fur. He looked around for a minute and then started to talk.
“It looks bland. Kind of boring actually” he said and hissed out a laugh. I pouted a bit and rolled my eyes.
“What do you expect? A hollow to have a welcoming house with a pie cooling down in the window?” I asked him with my eyebrow raised a little. Kei didn’t say anything in response, just grinned a bit. I walked over to my mask collection and used my tail to tilt them and make them a bit straighter.
“Why do you have all those masks?” Kei asked, slithering over to where I was and looking up at them.
“It’s my collection. Every time I kill a hollow I will hang it up somewhere. It gives the cave a bit more color don’t you think? It also brings back amazing memories.” I said. I knew he understood what I meant by ‘memories’, so I didn’t bother to explain.
“It definitely adds color, but we need more. Maybe start collecting other… Mementos?” Kei said with a slick grin that suited him very well.
“What do you have in mind?” I asked, my grin just as wicked as his.
“Claws, teeth, horns, eyes, stuff like that.” He said as he turned and slithered away, towards the opposite wall. “We can make ‘shelves’ here and place them here. Hell, we can even make… accessories. It would definitely scare the other hollows.” Kei said, turning back to me and tilting his small head.
I nodded and grinned. I jogged over to him and stared at the wall; I swung my tail to the side and grinned at the extra tails. I pressed the tips if the tail against the wall and drew an outline of what needed to be cut out, a series of large rectangles with a small sliver of space between them. I looked to Kei who shrugged and nodded. I pressed my tails harder into the hard crystal, but it was a bit too hard. I scowled and brain stormed.
Kei slithered forward and hissed on the crystal, poison flying from his mouth and corroding the hard crystal. I grinned and had my tails start to leak out my own poison, being sure not to let it drip anywhere. I pressed my tail against the crystal again and watched as my tail sunk through it. I continued to carve through the hard rock, Kei helping a bit as well. After a while he got bored though, slithering off my head and onto the sand.
“You wouldn’t mind me going out and hunting would you? I want to level up, as you put it.” He said, staring up at me. I scrunched up my nose.
“You sure? It’s pretty dangerous out there.” I said, stopping to look at him.
“I’ll be fine.” Was Kei’s only response. I thought it over in my head, what if he ended up not being able to handle the hollow he encounters? What if he gets lost?
“If you can’t beat the hollow, what will you do?” I asked.
“I will burrow under the ground and come back.” Kei said.
“And if you get lost?”
“I won’t get lost! Snakes have a good sense of smell!” he said as he rolled his eyes. I sighed and nodded.
“Just don’t go too far. I want to be able to smell your blood if anything happens.” He nodded and slithered out of the cave entrance. If it came down to it I could chase his smell down and track his tracks. I would most definitely be able to smell the blood in the air if he listens to me. I turned around and continued to carve into the crystal.
About an hour or two later Kei came back, slithering in with a couple different things. He continued to drag it over to where I was. “Looks like you finished the shelves.” Kei said as he looked at the finely carved and shaved shelves, small swirls for decoration along it. I nodded and continued to stare at the bag of… Mysteries. “It’s the first couple of mementos we have. It’s a couple of claws from a lemur type hollow. Chick was pissing me off, all her incessant nagging and screeching…” Kei said, scowling as he glared at the bloody claws. “I also got a couple of teeth from a raccoon hollow. Guy was fat! He wobbled when he walked!” he said, a small laugh in his voice. I could picture kind of picture it, and by the size of the teeth, he was huge.
“There was even a spider! God that guy creeped me out! He was bending and…” he shivered after that, not able to finish his sentence. I couldn’t help but laugh, everything that he said finally hitting me. I picked all the mementos up and placed them onto a shelf, blood and all. He continued to tell me everything that had happened and I couldn’t stop laughing. At one point he started to strangle me so he could continue talking without my laughter over powering it. It actually made me laugh even harder and I ended up going silent and howling in pain.
When I had finally shut up Kei was digging himself a bed and I couldn’t help but laugh. “You are sleeping on a fur bed, like me!” I said, shaking my head at his stupidity. I looked out side; not too dark. “Come on Kei, let’s go hunt~” I said and with that, I swung him onto my head and lurched outside, my ears perked up for any surprise attacks. We ended up encountering a bunch of hollows looking for an easy meal. I have to admit, it’s pretty smart to go hunting at night when everyone is either sleeping or is too stupid to understand that they will likely die by the hands of a bigger prey. I let Kei kill the hollows; he needed to level up more than me. If he ever got too injured I took over the fight and healed him afterwards, my blood working wonders.
It was almost dawn when we FINALLY encountered a furry animal. Problem; It was way too tiny. We weren’t going to let it go though, we still killed it and I had my tail hold it up behind me by the tail. Can’t let it go to waste now can we? About an hour later we found a pretty large gorilla and I decided to allow Kei to kill this one. Kei handled it well, swiftly dodging the gorilla’s massive hands and giving quick and powerful blows to its face and rubbery tummy. Soon enough the gorilla died from internal bleeding—I assume—and I skinned him and left his bloody carcass there for any hungry hollows that happened to pass by.
When we finally arrived back at the cave we were damn tired! I quickly fired a cero at a plate of sand outside of the cave and placed the hair on it and let it melt into it. I then picked up the plate of hardening glass and laid it down a little bit away from me. Kei practically died right when he slithered into it, breathing quietly as he slept. I followed suit, laying down onto the bed and thinking about what has happened in the past day and just laid my head down onto my paws, breathing heavily and shutting my eyes so I could sleep.

+++??? p.o.v +++
I woke up groggily and got up. I’ve slept enough; I’ll sleep after I find her and ask her if she would be my partner here. Might as well have some company and someone who will make sure you don’t die. Even better, she’s strong. Not to mention she sounds nice and would be great company. I slowly climbed down the tree, slowly getting faster and faster as my body actually woke up and got into gear. I decided to head back to where we fought. Her scent should still be there, and from there I could trace her to wherever she is now. I jumped forward and continued at a fast pace, determined to find her soon.
By the time I had actually found her, I was taken to a cave. Her scent was strong everywhere around here, fresh and crisp. I slowly crept inside, looking around warily. ‘I’m probably going to die today.’
