Alissa's POV
We got out of Luke's car and walked into the ice cream shop and sat down. I sat by Calum on one side of the booth, and Bay and Luke on the other.
"We're gonna go order, okay?" Luke said as they got out of the booth, leaving me and Calum alone. Calum nodded and they walked away. Silence. Awkward silence. I don't even know what to say to him. Should I introduce myself? Does he already know me?
"Your last name's Lambert right?" his question definitely didn't make it any less awkward. Hopefully things were going better for Bay.
"Yeah. Alissa Lambert." I'm dying here. "So what kind of ice cream are you going to get? They have like every flavor here." Hopefully this springs conversation.
"Um, not sure. Probably chocolate. What about you?" He looked in my eyes with a cute little smirk on his face. I stared in his eyes for a second, then looked away.
"Yeah probably chocolate." I looked down at the table. Silence. Again. Why did I have to be so damn awkward?
"You guys can get yours now." Bay said as she scooted along the booth seat. We walked up to the glass protecting the tubs and tubs of ice cream.
"What looks good?" a voice from behind us asked. It sounded like a girl, but I didn't recognize it.
"Play along with me." Calum breathily whispered in my ear and took my hand. His hand swallowed up mine as he intertwined our fingers. They fit together so perfectly, like no other guy's had. We turned around to face the mysterious person.
"Hey Chelsea." Calum said as we faced her. I think I remember her from school, but I couldn't even think because of Calum.
"Already on a date, hm?" She crossed her arms. Must be an ex.
"Yeah. So could you leave us to it?" I silently watched as he started to get angry.
"Whatever. Tell your little girlfriend to watch her back. Bitch." She stomped off.
"Um who the hell was that?" I asked him, looking up at his face. He was still staring where she was standing. His grip on my hand got tighter and started to hurt. "Um Cal, it's- your- you're kind of hurting me." He immediately snapped out of it.
"Oh sorry." He let go. I didn't really want him to, but oh well.
"So who was that?" I asked him again.
"Just an ex. A bitchy one."
"Messy break up?"
"Something like that. Can we not talk about her anymore?" He seemed really uncomfortable.
"Yeah. Sorry."
"You tell me if she ever does anything to you, okay? As far as she knows we're dating, and it's better for both of us if she keeps thinking that." The way he said that, I couldn't help but smile. He's being so protective over me, and we barely know each other.
"Yeah. Of course."
We ordered our ice cream and walked back to the table.
"What took you guys so long?" Bay asked us as we sat back down. I looked at Calum, who was intently focused on his chocolate ice cream, and smiled. I looked at Bay and mouthed
"I'll explain later."
