Alissa's POV
I walked down the hallway to my best friend Bay's locker before school started. I hated school so much, and my looks certainly reflected it. I just threw on some grey sweats and an old IU sweatshirt this morning with my blonde hair thrown up in a ponytail. I don't have anyone to impress so what's the point?
"Hey babe." I said coming up next to her. She was fighting a losing battle against her messy locker. I helped her get her books out and got her situated for class. She shut her locker and leaned her back up against it to slowly slide down to sit. I followed suit on the locker right next to her's. We sat in silence as I quietly admired her outfit. She wore light-washed jeans with slight tears in the knees. She had on a light pink v-neck top with a dark blue, light purple, and pink plaid scarf that matched perfectly. Her long, brown hair was completely straight, and gracefully fell down her shoulders. She always had such cute clothes, and today was certainly no exception.
"Don't you look cute!" I told her, in a high-pitched voice.
"Thanks." she said blankly, her gaze set on the wall. Something was clearly wrong, and for some reason, I couldn't figure it out. Probably just tired. The only thing that made her look away from the wall was Luke Hemmings. He walked by with his best, and seemed like only, friend Calum Hood. They were always together, like Bay and I. Luke was painfully shy and Calum was the same way. They were a perfect match for each other. They were both pretty attractive, but lacked in personality. I've had a crush on Calum for a long time, but it was one of those that I've kept deeeeep inside and haven't told anyone. Not even Bay, and she was basically my sister. It was a completely unreasonable crush. I've never even said a word to him. She stared at Luke as he walked right by to his own locker. "He's so hot." she mumbled to herself.
"What did you just say?" I questioned her.
"What? Uh nothing." she was clearly blushing. Oh god. She had a crush on Luke. They've talked a few times before, but it hadn't gotten past simple small talk.. At least we have similar taste? I looked over at Bay and her head was hanging low and looking at the ground. I looked down too. My eyes adventured the floor as a pair of black Vans appeared in the corner of my eye. I snapped my head up to see who was invading our space. It was Luke fucking Hemmings. He was looking down at us with a face as red as a tomato. I nudged Bay's shoulder and nodded my head toward him. She slowly looked up and when she realized it was him, she quickly stood up. His eyes intently followed her every move. I stood up too. They stood awkward and silent for a second.
"So." Luke said to break the quietness. "I, was. Uh, wondering. Uh..." He looked down at the ground. He was so nervous, and I felt bad for him. He was asking out Bay Evans. We definitely weren't nobodies. Luke on the other hand, was kind of an outcast. "So are you doing," he laughed a little at himself. Calum kicked his foot. I didn't even notice he was there, and neither did Bay, who jumped when he kicked him. "Shit!" Luke loudly whispered and bit his bottom lip trying not to show pain. He stuck his hands in his jeans pocket and looked at the ground again. "Well I was wondering, if you would wanted to go get something to eat with me tonight."
"So as a date?" Bay asked, with a smile growing on her face.
"Yeah. I guess." He looked up and returned the smile.
"Uh, give me a second." She quickly said and took me to the side. "You have to help me out here." she said to me as we walked a few feet away. "I want to go on this date, but I can't go alone. It would be so awkward and quiet. He couldn't even look me in the eye when he asked me out. You have to come with me." she pleaded to me.
"And be a third wheel? Uh, no thanks." I blatantly told her as I crossed my arms.
"Please. What do I have to do?" she folded her fingers together and shook her interlocked hands. I looked over at Calum, who had on a dark gray beanie slouched over his head as his dark brown hair gently laid across his forehead. He looked so perfect. He gently pushed his hair to the side put his hands in his pockets. I must have been staring, because Bay sure noticed. She grabbed my hand and forcefully dragged me back over to them.
"So, I'm going to say yes. If," she paused, "Calum will go with Alissa and we make it a double date." I quickly snapped my head. I gave her a dirty look with eyes as big as silver dollars. How could she say that? She didn't even know if I liked him! Luke looked back at Calum, waiting for a response. He looked me up and down, like I was a piece of meat. Disgusting. He shrugged his shoulders and Luke agreed. They set up a time as I internally freaked out. But I kind of second guessed Calum's personality, who did I have a crush on?
