Chapter 2

Maya POV

Babysitting for Ms. Friar has been going very well. There were a few times that I'd even taken Riley and her little brother Auggie with me. It turns out Auggie and Kenzie were in the same grade so whenever Riley and I had to work on a project together she'd bring Auggie along with her so that he and Kenzie could play together. Everyone once in awhile Kenzie would mention missing her brother. I really didn't want to ask any questions about him because I didn't know the circumstances around him not being there so I would just reassure her that she'd see him soon.  

Today I didn't have to be to The Friars until 4:30 which meant that Kenzie's mom was picking her up from school today. This worked out good because I had English and Science homework that I wanted to get done.  I loved Kenzie but sometimes it was hard to get my Homework done. Recently I have waited until after I put her to bed to start on anything that needed to be done as it was easier for me to concentrate and to be quite honest I wanted to give her some attention. She barely gets to see her Mom due to the work schedule and I was this little girl once. I knew how it was. 

By the time I got done with my homework it was time for me leave to watch McKenzie. When I got there she had just got done eating dinner. Her mom thanked me before she headed off to work. Kenzie wanted to me to play babies with her. There was no way I was going to say no to her. My role was of course the babysitter. I had it a bit easy because I could binge watch Pretty Little Liars on her iPad while she I babysat her baby.  I was in the middle of the episode where Mona was revealed to be A when a FaceTime call came through to the iPad.  The name on the screen was "Lucas" so I knew this must be her brother. I answered the call and almost gasped out loud at the boy that appeared on my screen. 

"Oh, I'm sorry did I get the wrong person?" he asked. 

"I don't think so. Were you trying to reach Kenzie?" I replied. 

"Yes I was. You must be the new babysitter my mom has told me about. " he answered and I was trying so hard to not blush. 

"That would be me. Hold on I'll grab Kenzie for you." I replied before setting the iPad down on the couch. I wasn't sure where she went but found her in her room. She was putting her baby in one of her strollers. 

"Hi Maya, I was just getting my stroller." she said with a smile once she saw me. 

"I see that. I just wanted to let you know Lucas FaceTimed you." I replied and as soon as I said his name she ran out of the room to get her iPad. 

I walked out into the living room and she was already sitting on the couch talking to him. I sat down beside her and she turned to face me. 

"Maya! Lucas says he is coming home in a few weeks to see me." she said excitedly. 

"I told you he would probably be home soon." I answered. 

"Lukey this is Maya my new babysitter. We were in the middle of playing babies." she answered and in that moment I wanted nothing more than to walk out of the room. 

"Ask Maya what she named her baby." he replied with a smile.  His smile was everything. Why did us playing babies have to be the topic of conversation right now? Seriously the last conversation that you want to have with a cute boy is about playing baby dolls with the child you are babysitting.  

"Maya doesn't have a baby! She watches my baby. Oh wait I should get you a baby of your own Maya. Here take my iPad for me so I can get you one." she said before laying the iPad in my lap.  

Once she was out of the room I looked down and saw Lucas was silently laughing. 

"Don't you have some cattle you need to herd or something?" said and he just grinned at me. 

"Don't you have a baby you got to feed?" and I just scowled at him. 

"Yeah thanks for that! She was just having me watch her baby for her while I watched some PLL hence the reason I answered this FaceTime call." 

"I think I might need to call more often. You're fun to mess with." he replied. "How old are you?" 

"I'm 17." I answered. "How about you?" 

"I'm 17 too." he replied and just as he did Kenzie was walking back in the room with a baby doll. 

She handed me the baby doll and then took her iPad so she could talk to her brother. I had to admit that watching the two of them talk back and forth was really cute. She adored her brother so much you could just tell.  He was telling her stories about the baby animals he has on the farm. One of the horses had recently given birth. He even took his iPad out to the barn to show her the baby pony.   

"Alright shortstack, I got to get going. I have to feed the animals. I'll FaceTime to you tomorrow." he replied to her. I could tell she was kind of sad so I figured I'd intervene. 

"I love you Lukey. I hope you come home soon." she replied and I watched as a tear fell down her cheek. 

"I love you Kenzie and I'll be home soon. I promise." he replied. "Don't cry okay? I'll call you tomorrow after you get home from school." 

"Will you show me the pony again?" she asked. 

"Yes, I'll show you the pony again." he replied. "Tell Maya to play babies with you so you aren't sad." 

"Okay I will." she replied before kissing the ipad screen. Once they hung up she walked over to me and sat in my lap.  

I put my hand through her hair and held her for a minute, "You know Kenziee it's not so bad. I know you miss your big brother but he said he will call you tomorrow." 

"Okay. We got to make sure we don't miss his call." she answered. 

"I will make sure we don't miss the call. You know what why don't we get your bath and get around for bed. I'll read you a story." I suggested to which she agreed. 

After getting McKenzie down for the night I grabbed the iPad to get started back on my PLL binge. I decided to send a message to Lucas to let him know that Kenzie was okay. 

"Hey Lucas, it's Maya. I wanted to let you know that Kenzie is asleep now. She adores you and misses you a lot. I reassured her that we wouldn't miss your call tomorrow. It was nice meeting you. :) -Maya" 

After the message sent I deleted the conversation out of the iPad so that his Mom didn't see it. I wasn't too familiar with the situation and didn't know how she would feel about me texting her son. He never did reply back to me. I just continued my PLL binge session until Ms. Friar got home from work at around 11PM. I let her know that her son called to talk to Kenzie and she said that she had forgot to tell me he planned to FaceTime her tonight. I told her that Kenzie adores him and misses him a lot and that she was upset when they hung up. She thanked me but didn't tell me anything about Lucas. That was fine. I figure it was a subject she didn't to broach. I grabbed my things and headed back home. I couldn't wait to just get home and in my bed.
