Chapter 18

Maya POV

I was sitting in the Friars living room reading the book, that we were assigned to read for English class when McKenzie, who I thought was in bed crawled up on the couch beside me. I sat the book on my lap and turned to face her. She climbed up on my lap and cuddled into me.

"Why are you still awake?" I asked her.

"I can't sleep." She answered.

"Is something bothering you?"

She looked up me with a sad expression on her face "I miss Lukey and want him to come home."

"Oh baby girl, I miss him too. " I replied as I hugged her tightly. "I have faith that he will be home with us soon but next time around he will be here for good."

"Sometimes at night when he would visit I would crawl into bed with him because I was scared and he would let me sleep with him." She replied and I couldn't help but smile. 

"He does good making you not feel scared doesn't he?" I asked and she nodded at me.

"Will you come in my bed with me and sing me to sleep, Maya?" I looked at her and smiled.

"Of course, let's go."

Kenzie crawled off my lap and together we went to her room. I sang Hush Little Baby to her and she was out within minutes. Wanting to make sure she didn't wake back up I lay there watching her sleep.  She looked so much like Lucas.  Once I knew she was asleep I walked back into the living room. I picked up my cell phone and noticed I had a missed text message and FaceTime call from Lucas.  I FaceTimed him back and he answered on the first ring.

"There you are." He said as soon as he saw me.

I noticed he was sitting there shirtless and was hoping he wouldn't catch onto the fact that I was currently staring at his abs.

"Sorry I missed your call. I was singing Kenzie to sleep."

"Why was she still up? He asked.

"She was missing you and then it made me miss you. So I was just putting her back to sleep."

"I miss you too." He replied. "How was your day?

"It was good. " I smiled "Hey Lucas?"

"What?" he answered.

"You know how you were when you saw me in my bikini top for the first time?" He nodded and so I continued "Well I know how you felt. Can you put your shirt on because your abs and biceps are throwing me off and the fact that I can't kiss you right now is making it worse."

Lucas chuckled "Yes, Maya I'll put my shirt on."

"So this guy hit on me in the hallway at school today." I said to him and the look on his face was that of pure annoyance.

"Did you tell the asshole that you're mine?" he replied and I just chuckled.

"Yeah I told him I had a boyfriend. But I got to admit that he's not bad looking."

"Really? Maybe you should be with him then." He replied and I just smirked at him.

"But why do that when I have the hottest boyfriend ever?"

"Well at least he'd be a boyfriend who goes to the same school as you." he sighed.

"Lucas! Stop, I don't want him. He's a pig. My heart belongs to you." I said to him in a serious tone.

"I know it does. So what did this guy do that makes you think he's a pig?"

"He said he wanted to kiss my luscious lips. I flipped him off and told him to go screw himself."

"Good. If he does it again tell him his face is going to meet my fist."

I started laughing "You are so cute when you are jealous."

"I love you, Maya." he smiled "I need to see you again."

"I love you more." I replied "Not being able to kiss you is pure torture."

"Tell me about it." he replied.

"Can I talk to you about something?"

"Of course. You can talk to me about anything." He smiled.

"Ok so when Riley and Farkle were here yesterday she asked me how far you and I have gone. I told her we really haven't talked about it." I said and he had a surprised expression on his face. 

"Maya, that's something I want you to be ready for when the time is right." Lucas replied and his tone was serious.

"I want you so bad, Lucas, sometimes it's hard for me to stay in control." I blurted out.

He just sat there speechless for a couple of seconds before picking up his bottle of water and taking a sip of it. Why wasn't he saying anything?

"One of my favorite things about you is that you have absolutely no filter. And I'll have you know that the whole bikini fiasco a couple weeks ago has never made me want you more." He replied and I started laughing.

"Hey, now that was not my fault! I simply took my shirt off because it was hot out and I figured we were washing the gator anyways." I chuckled. 

"That part certainly wasn't but when you took your shorts off revealing full bikin attire it was! And don't you  even tell me you weren't trying to troll me." he replied.  

I started laughing, "Oh please, like you coming out in a towel with your shit eaten grin wasn't you trying to get to me. " I argued back. "You started the entire ordeal, Huckleberry." 

"Give me a break! You totally started it." he said and I could tell he was trying not to laugh. 

"What? How did I start it?"" I retorted. 

"You slept in my t-shirt that night. I can't even describe how hot you looked wearing my shirt." he replied and I chuckled. 

I rolled my eyes "Give it up Ranger Rick, you're reaching now." I smiled. 

"I'll give it up the next time I see you.' he winked. 

"You're such a guy. I can't with you." I replied. "I love you." 

"I love you too, Maya. We'll see each other real soon." he replied. 

Lucas and I chatted for awhile longer on FaceTime. His Mom was going to be coming soon and I had to finish reading for my homework assignment. Valentines Day was in 3 weeks and I worried so much that I wouldn't be able to spend it with him. Why did this have to be so hard?"
