Chapter 3

The next day at school Riley, Farkle, and I sat together like we always do at lunch. I couldn't wait to tell Riley about how hot Kenzie's brother is.  I put my books in my locker and then made my way to the cafeteria. Farkle and Riley had already gotten their lunch were sitting at a table. I got myself a Caesar chicken salad along with an Ice Tea and then made my way over to the table. 

"Riles, we need to talk!" I said as I sat down. 

"Sure, peaches whats up?" she answered. 

"So you know how I told you about Kenzie missing her brother?" 

"Yep, I remember you telling me about that. " Riley said as she took a bite of her apple. 

"How are you liking your new babysitting job, Maya?" Farkle asked. 

"I love it!" I answered. "And okay well he FaceTimed Kenzie last night. Her mom forgot to tell me and oh my god Riley he's so hot." 

"Really? Did you talk to him?" Riley curiously asked. 

"Alright, looks like total girl talk here. I'm going to go see what Smackle is up to." Farkle said before getting up from the table. 

"Yes, I did. I didn't expect him to be that cute. Also it was the worst timing ever because Kenzie and I were playing baby dolls." I replied. 

Riley started laughing, "You were what Maya? Should I be concerned?" 

"Oh my god, no. She wanted me to babysit her baby." I laughed.  "He's supposed to FaceTime her again tonight. Is it bad that I'm kind of looking forward to it?" 

"Wow, Maya you must really smitten with him." 

"I kind of am. He is honestly the first boy I ever really had a strong attraction too." I replied. 

"Yeah but over a video chat though?" Riley asked and I was starting to get annoyed. 

"I'm just saying I think he's really hot not that I'm in love with him." I answered. "I'm kind of drawn to his personality too." 

"How long was the video chat?" Riley asked which only annoyed me further. 

"It was like 30 minutes. He talked mostly with Kenzie." I said before taking another bite of my salad. 

"And from a 30 minute video chat you think you know his personality?" Riley replied and by this point I was beyond annoyed. 

"What is your issue? I just said I think he's hot and all I meant by his personality is that he is actually quite funny." I replied with annoyance showing in my voice. 

"I'm sorry. I just don't want you to get too far ahead of yourself. He lives all the way in the Texas."  Riley replied and I could tell that I hurt her feelings. 

"I'm sorry for snapping at you but you are focusing too much on things." I replied. "I appreciate your concert Riley but I'm not getting ahead of myself. I just simply think he is cute and funny. He was teasing me about playing baby dolls. Lucas actually one upped me. When has anyone one upped Maya Hart?" I asked. 

"I'm sorry too. He sounds like a really nice guy, Maya." she answered. 

Riley and I finished our lunch then headed onto our next class. It seemed like the day completely dragged on. I was so glad when the 3:00 bell rang. I didn't have any homework today so I just grabbed my backpack and headed on over to the Elementary School to pick up McKenzie. She didnt have any homework either. Today she wanted me to play Wii with her so together we played Mario Kart. She of course beat me. We were just sitting down for dinner when her iPad got an incoming FaceTime call. She excitedly ran over to the counter and answered it. 

"Hey Princess." Lucas said to her. 

"Hi Lukey!" she said with a big grin. 

"How was school today?" he asked her. 

"School was fun. Auggie and I sat together at lunch. He's my best friend." 

"Who is Auggie? He better not be a boyfriend." he said and I thought it was cute how he went into protective mode. 

Kenzie laughed "No Lucas he's just a friend. Boyfriends are yucky." 

"Where is Maya? She off changing diapers?" he said and I rolled my eyes before taking the iPad out of Kenzie's hands. 

"No Farmhand, I just got done making dinner." I said to him and he started laughing. 

"Got to keep those kids fed." He retorted. 

When Kenzie wasn't looking I lifted the iPad up and flipped him off which only made him laugh harder.  

"I'd rather keep the kids fed than cleaning up farm animal poop." I  retorted back. 

Kenzie scrunched her nose up "Ew. Maya that's gross." 

"Yeah Maya that's disgusting." Lucas chimed in. 

Kenzie walked over and took the iPad from me so she could finish talking with Lucas. She seemed to be a lot better tonight after hanging up with him I didn't have to console her tonight like I did the night before. One thing that  caught my attention was the fact that he said he'd call her again tomorrow. Was he just as smitten with me? I read Kenzie some fairytales before putting her to bed. She loved for me to read princess stories to her. She told me all about the time that when Lucas was home last time that he made her a castle. He promised her that he'd buy her a white pony. Once she was sleep I went out to the living room to watch some TV. I noticed that iPad was laying on the couch and figured I'd plug it in the charger. I walked over to the counter and plugged it in which caused the screen to light up. I noticed there was a message on there and it was from Lucas. 

"Just got done feeding all the animals. Going to hop in the shower and then after that just going to relax. You should text me. :) Delete this text message after you get it. I don't want Mom to see." - Lucas" 

I added his phone number to my cell phone and deleted the text message after doing so. I was kind of nervous about this because I was worried of what his Mom's reaction would be if she found out we have been talking. I pushed my worry aside and sent him a text message letting him know ti was me. It was 10 minutes before he got back to me but once he did we didn't stop texting. I wonder what Riley was going to think now?
