Chapter 23

The next day after Lucas and I's first night home together my alarm clock sounded alerting me to the fact that I had to go to school. I woke up still in his embrace not moving from the night before. I was hoping I could just slip out of his arms and him not notice but the minute  I started to move away he pulled me back to him.

"You need to let me go or I'm going to be late to school." I replied as I turned to face him. 

"Can't you just skip today?" he mumbled. 

"You know that I would do that if I could right?" 

"I love you." he said before kissing me on the lips. 

I deepened it just to give him a little something completely forgetting that Kenzy was in bed with us. 

"Ew, you two are gross." she said and I jumped away as quickly as possible. 

"What are you doing in here squirt?" Lucas said as he looked down at the little girl laying at our feet. 

"Got scared so I came in the middle of the night. Can you take me to school today?" she asked. 

"Yes. go to your room and get ready." he answered. 

McKenzie jumped off of the bed and went running to her room. Seconds later as I went to get up I was being pulled back and my body was being slammed against bed mattress. Before I had time to think his lips were on mine. We broke away and I lay there having completely lost train of thought. 

"Go get ready for school beautiful. I don't want you to be late." he said and I just looked at him and nodded. 

I went an got dressed for the day wearing my usual jeans and a cute top. I walked out of the bathroom completely annoyed by all the emotions that were running through my body after he slammed me to the bed and kissed me like that. 

"You're an ass, Huckleberry." I simply said. 

He smirked at me knowing full well what he did, "Stuck on that kiss still?" he asked. 

I flipped him off then picked my backpack up off the floor and left without saying another word. I could hear him laughing as I walked out the door.  We dropped McKenzie off at school and told her we would be there later to pick her up. Lucas dropped me off last cause he wanted to have more time with me. Tomorrow was going to be his first day at the school. It took two days as they had to transfer some things and enroll him.  We pulled into the parking lot and the students were all inside so I knew it was close for the bell to ring. I was still coming back from the kiss before we left and every single time I thought if it I just got annoyed so I decided I was going to get him back. I took my seat belt and climbed over his lap so that I was now straddling him in the front seat of my car. 

"Maya what are you..." he started to say but I cut him off as our lips crashed. I grabbed his hair and pulled him closer to me. His hands were making their way to my ass and I grinned into his mouth. My plan was working. His hands were working their way to my hips gently brushing on my stomach causing me to shudder. I knew I couldn't keep going and when the bell sounded I had to stop. 

I broke free from the kiss and looked at him "I'm sorry but I got to go." 

He leaned his head back against the seat "I guess I deserved that for leaving you hanging this morning. Get to class so you don't get in trouble. "

I climbed up off his lap making a beeline for the door. I was 5 minutes late but luckily it was Mr. Matthews first period History class. I knew he wouldn't write me up.  I told Riley to meet me at my locker before lunch because that is usually what we would do everyday. I put my books in my locker, closed the door then turned around to look and see if Riley was coming only to be greeted by Nate the guy who had hit on me before. 

"Hey there beautiful." he said and I rolled my eyes. 

"Don't you have some place to be? Leave me alone." 

I was kind of getting uncomfortable because Riley wan'st here yet and the hallway was almost empty due to everyone going to lunch. 

"I sure do. Here with you." he replied. 

"I told you I have a boyfriend." I answered. 

"I know what you told me." now he was leaning over me and it was way too close to comfort for me as I had no where to go being that I was in front of the locker. 

"Get away from me please." I replied. 

"What's the matter Maya?" he said tracing his finger along my face. 

Lucas POV

I received a phone call about 10:00AM after dropping Maya off that they needed me to come and sign papers for school enrollment. I was kind of excited at the possibility of seeing Maya. I told them I would be there at 11:30 as I had to get around and it would probably be 45 minutes before I arrived due to morning traffic in the city.  I got done signing papers and asked them if it would be okay to stop in the cafeteria to see my friend. I was walking down the hallway going past the lockers when I stopped in my tracks when I saw Maya and some guy. Jealousy started to wash over me but then I realized something was wrong. The look she had on her face was a look of fear and I didn't like seeing that. It then dawned on me that this must be the asshole who hit on her last month. I walked down to them anger washing over me. 

"Let her go." I said angerly. 

He leaned away from her and looked at her "Who the hell are you?"  

"Lucas?" I heard Maya say. 

"Her boyfriend. Now get the hell away from her before I make you get away from her." I replied as I walked closer to her. 

"Oh the boy that she's supposedly been crying over for the last two months?" he said and I was beyond the point of anger. I wanted to kick his ass. I started putting my fist towards him but stopped when Maya yelled. 

"Lucas NO!" she said and I stopped to look at her. 

"I don't know who the hell you think you are but I'll have you know that I'm here now for good and start school tomorrow. If you don't back away from her I'll get a restraining order put on your ass. " I threatened. 

He stepped away from her and she came running over to me. I looked at him. "Stay the hell away from her." I said as I wrapped my arms around her. She nuzzled her head into my shirt and I could tell she was crying.  

"Maya, what's going on?" I heard a girls voice and turned around realizing it was Riley. "Are you okay." 

The guy walked away leaving us in the hallway. I turned to Riley "She's fine. We'll fill you tell you what happened at lunch after we go report his ass to the office.

"Make sure Maya texts me." Riley said and I nodded reassuring her that I would. 

It was then that I realized this guy could have pulling this stuff when I wasn't here and it killed me even more that I wasn't here to protect her. In that moment I felt that I had failed Maya.
