"Alright, spill."

"What?" Louis asked. What was Zayn talking about?

"Why does it seem like you're suddenly all buddy-buddy with Harry now? Is there something I should know?"

"I'm allowed to be friends with whoever I want," Louis said defiantly. Was he really that obvious?

"You know, Sara asked me about you — again. Are you just blowing her off for months at a time? You can't be that rude, Lou. She likes you."

"I don't like her. I mean, I thought I did at one point, and yeah, we did some stuff, but I don't like her. I just... no. And I don't really want to talk to her about it, either. She's not my best friend. I'm not obligated to tell her anything."

Zayn crossed his arms over his chest. "Well, I am your best friend. So tell me why you've been ignoring her and why you're so suddenly being close to Harry. You used to hate him! What even happened to that? I'm not saying it was good, but how could you possibly change your mind so quickly?"

"I didn't hate him," Louis muttered under his breath. "And it wasn't sudden. It just happened, and I'm fine with how everything is now."

"That's not answering my question."

"Why do you even care?"

"Because I thought if I waited long enough that you'd tell me eventually! You've been acting differently for a while now, and I don't think you see it."

"Differently how, exactly?"

"You're nicer," Zayn said, ignoring Louis's noise of disapproval. "You're not complaining about your life nearly as much, and you always are happy. And you barely talk to anyone besides us three anymore. I just don't get it."

"How do you manage to notice all of this but not notice why I'm acting differently?"

"Aha! So you admit it!"

Louis rolled his eyes. "Whatever. Think what you want."

"No! No, you're staying and you're telling me this. Do you like someone else, and that's why you're ignoring Sara?"

Louis hesitated. Did it really matter if Zayn knew? Zayn knew even better than Louis did what it was like to like a guy he never thought he'd fall for. Zayn also knew what it was like to be scared about it.

"Yes?" Zayn asked impatiently.

"Shut up. It's a big thing to tell you and I don't know if I even want to tell you yet."

"You should. I'd like to know what's made you so... unlike yourself."

"Fuck you. Alright, fine." He took a deep breath. "Yes, I like someone else. Yes, that's why I'm not talking to Sara."

Zayn let out a noise of victory. "I knew it! What's her name?"

Louis winced. "I'm getting there. Okay... um, what I feel is, y'know, kind of serious—"

"You? Serious feelings? Really?"

"I hate you. Shut up and let me talk, alright?"

Zayn huffed but didn't say anything more.

"Serious feelings and stuff is something completely different from what I've done in the past. And I've never wanted any kind of real relationship. Until, um, now. But everything's different, I guess, and it's kind of terrifying."

"I'm looking for a name here."

"You know them," Louis said carefully. "Um..."

"Louis, just tell me her name. I won't make fun of you or—"
