Needles
I hated them.I had watched quietly as my sister and brother was injected by the vaccine without flinching or squirming. No questions asked.
After Alerick gathered most of the people that lived on the castle grounds, he told them of a virus that they needed their bodies to prevent from acquiring. He went into no details and no one questioned it. They just created a long line so Dr. Powell and Dr. Empress could treat them one by one.
Alerick stood between the two doctors overseeing everything but said nothing else on the matter.
I was next in line and I was dreading every second. I wasn't sure but the room felt like it was getting hotter.
I took a seat on the stool next to Dr. Powell. I was hoping Dr. Empress would have been finished with her patient by the time it was my turn. I needed a...gentle touch right now.
"Alerick? Can you hold my hand?" I asked seriously. He just squinted his eyes and stared at me.
"Please?" He growled in response at me before being pushed out the way by the Luna.
"I'll hold your hand Gary." She said before turning to glare at Alerick. He crossed his arms and looked away from her.
I pulled her hand to my lips and placed a kiss on her knuckles. "Thank you love."
"Anytime." She said laughing.
"Are you ready?" Dr. Powell asked.
"No." I replied honestly. Without warning, he stuck the needle in my arm. I felt my canine enlongating as I groaned at the feeling. He retracted his arm taking his needle with it.
"You son of a..."
"Next!" Alerick yelled out interrupting me. Erica dropped my hand and chuckled under her breath.
"Oh Gary." She whispered shaking her head.
I grabbed a bandaid and slapped it on my arm pissed. Dr. Powell recently has been getting on my nerves.
"Mom?" I blinked several times to clarify that I was indeed awake.
I just came back to the castle and went straight into my room hoping to rest for a while when I see my mother in my room. She was unpacking all of her clothes on my bed. She was a woman of medium height and dark red, almost burgundy, hair. She seemed perfectly content in my room at the moment. My mother and father lived alone in the village that the Luna worked at near the castle. They allowed my siblings to stay in the castle for proper safety and high levels of both training and education.
"What are you doing here mother?"
She placed her hand on her hip and stared me down. "Were you going to tell me about the virus?"
"What?" How did she know?
She rolled her eyes and turned back to unpacking. "Your brother and sister told me, right after they got their injections. I can't believe you didn't tell me."
I couldn't believe she was here this fast. The village is atleast a thirty minute drive.
"It's like your siblings are the only ones that want to keep me alive."
"What?!" I asked outraged.
"Why didn't you tell me about the epidemic so we, your parents, could receive our injections. Have you forgotten we're werewolves too?"
"No mother, I haven't forgotten." I rubbed my temple at the idiotic question.
"Then it's obvious that you don't care about our lives. What if there was an outbreak? Thank goodness for Thomas and Amanda."
"Of course I was planning on telling you! Of course I care about your life!"
"Then why did I have to hear from your younger siblings?"
"Because no one outside the castle is supposed to know yet. That information was highly confidential!" I yelled.
"So I'm a no one?" She asked seriously.
"We have a plan that was set to take place in two days. Your village was the first on the list, I made sure of that! We're trying our hardest to keep the entire Kingdom safe. Have you forgotten about the Luna's parents? They're in danger too but she's not complaining."
"Two days? What if it was too late Gary?"
"Then that would have been too bad!" I yelled. As soon as the words left my mouth, I felt horrible.
"Wow son." I heard my dad's voice from down the hall. "I didn't know you could throw that far. You're way better at baseball than your older brother was."
My father and Thomas entered my room. Thomas had a baseball's glove and baseball in his hand. My father and him shared a shock look on their face.
I looked between my mother and father while Thomas bowed his head. The tension was high in the room.
"I'm going for a drive." I finally spoke up. I grabbed my jacket from under the pile of my mother's clothing and pushed past my father and brother in the door way.
My parents' words hurt more than a thousand needles.
