We lived in such a selfish world.
Everyone cared about just themselves but expected everyone else to care about them.My.
For me.
Mine.I was not allowed to think like that. All MY thoughts and MY heart belonged to the castle.
I didn't have a castle of my own.
I didn't have a mate of my own.
I didn't even have a family of my own.I had a title in the Werewolf Kingdom, room in the castle, and a seat at the dinner table. That was all that I had. All that was mine.
The wind swept through my short spiked hair as I drove around seventy miles towards the village. I didn't know where I was going but I wanted to be away from the castle for a while.
I parked my car at the first building of the village, the post office, and stared straight ahead.
When most people hear the word village, they think of a rural area with few old buildings and people that dressed themselves from head to toe. This village was different; it was modernized. It had a mall, police office, library and many other important buildings. The civilians were dressed casually in jeans and tshirts and was very updated with events surrounding them. It was more like a small town than a village.
My favorite part of this place was werewolves living with humans peacefully.
Some humans in the village were trusted and knew of werewolves' existence while the others remained clueless and not threatened.
At that moment, two teenage girls, one human and one werewolves, walked past me and tried to discreetly point at me. When I looked at them and smiled, they giggled and scurried off. Atleast they knew I was good looking.
With my soft hair, I had an amazing jaw line, big brown eyes, full lips and smooth skin.
I was distracted from thinking about how gorgeous I am when I smelled blood. Straight ahead there was a huge circle of people. I walked over to the crowd and after being recognized by a few of werewolves, I was let through to the front.
One young human man and a older male werewolf were in the middle of the crowd fighting hand on hand combat. Atleast that's what I thought until I saw the 'human' eyes flashed a different color. For some reason, I didn't catch his scent.
"Break it up." I spoke up. Who knew when they were planning to shift?
The crowd dispersed when they heard the authority in my voice.
"What is going on here? I could throw you both in the dungeon for breaking our number one law."
"There should always be peace between the civilized wolves." The younger wolf whispered. He had a rugged rebel look going on.
"He stole from me. From my butcher shop. He babbled on about giving it to the poor acting like a modern day Robin Hood."
"It's pronounced Robino Ode." The rugged guy said telling me his name.
"I think he's just taking it for himself though." The older wolf continued.
"Is this true?" I asked Robino.
"Yes it is. But I swear it was these two homeless men I met in the street yesterday. I asked the butcher here to spare me his extras so I could give them a nice cooked meal but he blew me off. I swear all I was trying to take was scrap meat."
"So you committed two crimes today and started this quarrel?" Robino looked away from me. "I won't throw you into jail but you will have to pay for your crimes. A week's work at the butcher shop."
"What?" The butcher yelled outraged. "I don't want a thief to be working in my shop."
"You have no choice; you also participated in this conflict. You must learn to show kindness to people, especially your people."
"Fine." The butcher muttered under his breath. He walked away from us and entered a building I was assuming was his store.
"Thank you so much T. I. C. K."
"What did you just call me?" I tried to sound calm but I was offended.
"Third In Command King. TICK for short. Everyone in the werewolf kingdom calls you that."
"Don't call me that." I said seriously. "I'm just Gary."
"Whatever you say Gary. I'm just glad I didn't bump into Kent or the Alpha King." Robino sighed in relief.
"Alerick? Why?" I asked curious.
"Why? Because they're super strict; they would throw me into the dungeon no questions asked."
"So you didn't believe me when I said I would?"
"I mean for like a second but then I was like 'We're dealing with TICK!' " He looked at me when I growled. "I mean Gary."
"It's nice to know the Kingdom thinks I'm a joke. Last question Ode. How did you mask your scent? I couldn't tell you're a werewolf."
"Wolf's bane." I internally shivered at his answer.
I remember Alerick being shot by that demon flower. He was seriously paralyzed. I never seen him that... weak.
A couple years after the incident, he secretly tried working with Wolf's bane to see if he was injected with it, would he be able to overcome it. When the Luna found him paralyzed trying to shift one day, she shut it down and made him stop.
I grabbed the front of Robino's shirt and pulled him closer to me. "Why?"
"Because if I s-s-stole the meat without a s-scent, he wouldn't have been a-able to find me." He was trembling in my hands. I let him go and he almost fell to the ground.
"I meant why would you do that to yourself? How does it even work?" I asked still angry.
"When our system has Wolf's bane in it, it doesn't just paralyzes our body. It also hurts our inner wolf and everything that comes with it AKA our scent."
"And our ability to shift." I continued for him. "So that means you still have Wolf's bane in your blood stream right now?"
"Correct." We stood in silence as I took that information. "Look Gary. I'm sorry for all the trouble is caused you today. Let me buy you a coffee."
"If you have money to buy me a coffee, why couldn't you just buy the meat?"
"I wasn't going to pay for scraps!" Robino said in a duh tone.
I'm not sure why but I laughed. I think it's because I realized this day couldn't be any more eventful.
That was until I saw what was rightfully mine.
