"Okay, I have a couple of questions." Diane said right after she sat down.
She walked into the diner less than ten minutes ago. She was a short girl with super high heels, blazing red hair and creamy skin. Her face was a round shaped. She walked right up to the counter and waited for Evan to finish cleaning.
When Evan walked up to her with her purse, they talked for less than a minute before they both turned to face me. I felt slightly intimidated under her Diane's stare. She looked like she had red eyes. Evan took a seat at the counter while she walked over to me.
When she sat down, I realized I wasn't freaking out and seeing things. She did in fact have red eyes'...contacts.
"What do you want to know?" I asked.
"Name?" She fired away.
"Gary Matthews."
"Occupation?"
"Construction worker." It was not a total lie. I sometimes helped Alerick with his company.
"Age?"
"None of your business?" She stared at me wondering if she was going to let that slick comment bother her.
"How is your relationship with your mother? How you treat your mother is how you treat other women."
"We've seen better days but I love her."
"What are your intentions for my best friend?" She asked genuinely concerned.
"I just want to get to know her more; everything about her. She seems like an amazing, clumsy and smart girl. Even though she seems shy right now, I'm sure there's an super bold beautiful girl hiding behind that hard outer shell." I finished talked and internally cringed at how I sounded.
Diane stared at me and I knew she was finished with her questions. She turned and nodded her head at Evan before turning back to me. "Okay! You can take her out." I sat back in my seat in relief.
"Soooo where are you taking us, I mean her, on your first date?" Diane asked.
"Oh well. I didn't think about it that much yet. Maybe I would take you around the castle grounds. Show you off to some of my friends."
"That sounds like fun." Evan said quietly. Diane twitched then turned her head to the side. She looked creepy at the moment but I didn't comment on her weird behavior.
"Did you just say castle grounds? As in you live in a castle? More specifically, the one right outside this village?" Diane asked slowly.
"Yea. But I'm not the King or Prince or anything. I'm more like the next next one in line for the throne." I saw Evan eyes light up at the mention of a prince while Diane stared darkly at me.
"Change of plans. I'm going to join you guys on your date. Don't worry, I'm not going to be a third wheel or anything; I just always wanted to be near royalty."
"I guess you can join us." I said trying not to sound pissed off. Who was this girl? She was acting like Evan's mother. "Maybe I'll make a party out of it and you can bring a date if you want. Of course, that would mean I would need more than a day to plan it our date." I smiled at Evan making her smile back.
"That's fine. We don't mind waiting." Diane spoke up again. It's like she didn't think my mate could speak for herself.
"Diane." Evan said in a serious tone. "Can I speak to Gary alone?"
"Why? We got all the information we need." Diane responded.
"Just go wait outside." Diane rolled her eyes before saying she would only wait three minutes for Evan.
"I'm sorry Gary. Diane has always been overprotective of me."
"It's fine. Just weird."
"Yea I know. I knew she would spazz out on you."
"Spazz?" I asked laughing.
"You know like freak out." Evan said looking away and hiding her face. I slid my palm under her chin and made her stare at me.
"I wrote down my number for you." She whispered. I didn't release her chin and just kept staring.
"It's in my purse." I continued looking into her eyes but slid my hand up her cheek finally feeling her smooth skin.
"I need to get it Gary." She said gulping. I ran my hand through her hair and twirl it with my fingers.
"I dare you to look away." She couldn't. She just breathed heavily.
"Let's go!" Diane voice said breaking into the silence.
"Right." Evan said before searching through her purse, slamming a crumpled piece of paper on the table and running out the door.
I smiled when I saw the smiley faces on the paper beside her name.
I fell asleep on the couch in Alerick's castle while watching a movie with him and Erica. The only message I sent Evan was a goodnight around midnight. I got up off the couch and walked into the kitchen. I grabbed the lemonade out the fridge and poured out a glass for myself. When I turned, Erica was in the kitchen with me.
She ignored my presence and walked over to the fridge to grab the milk container.
"Erica? What does it mean if your mate is a human?"
"Did you find your mate?"
"No." I lied and instantly regretted it. "Yes."
"It doesn't matter Gary. Just be happy the Moon Goddess brought you two together."
"Erica." I pleaded. "I want to know what I did to her; if I did something to her. If you don't tell me, I will find out some other way."
She held a pained look on her face and rubbed her bump. If she wasn't due for another couple months, I would think she was having the baby now.
"When your two headed wolf was separated, you took her wolf with you. Your wolf was too...unstable without it."
"You mean my wolf was too weak? I was too weak? I'm the reason my mate is not a werewolf?"
"Gary! You can't blame yourself for this."
"Who is to blame then?" I yelled back at her. "I don't even deserve to be this strong. I have two wolves inside of me. That's the only reason I'm strong enough to be the freaking third in command." I hated myself. I took something from Evan and it would be my goal to give it back.
"You know that's not true." Erica said quietly.
"How can I give her her wolf back?"
She shook her head. "I'm not sure. There is only one person that can probably turn your mate into a werewolf."
"Alerick?" I asked.
"The Moon Goddess. At least that's what I think."
"Good. That's great. Go talk to her."
"Its not that easy Gary." Erica admitted. "She usually comes to me. I can't just summon her."
"Okay." I felt defeated already but I would not give up. Evan deserved to have her wolf. "Okay, I'm depending on you Erica. In the meantime, I'm going to do some research."
I was going to find answers for all these questions swirling through my head.
