Serena

My hands tremble nervously against my leg. How do I tell Marcel the people I am supposed to have control over are gone?

My phone rings and I eagerly look at it.

Unknown Caller

My heart races with anticipation as I pick it up.

"Hello?"

"You don't want to die, do you Serena?" Klaus.

"P-please- it wasn't my fault! It was all Marcel's idea... Please..." I can't help falling to my knees.

"I'll give you a choice. You come meet me at my place bringing candles and whatever you need to undo compulsion- don't tell Marcel where you're going or that were gone- and I won't sink my teeth into your neck. If you tell Marcel anything, you can bet you'll be dead in an hour." I tremble with fear.

"I'll be there in ten."

Klaus

"I don't see how inviting over the girl who tried to kill you is going to help," Caroline is still confused as I expected.

"Just trust me, okay?" Rebekah had pulled me aside, telling me what to do. We would bring Serena here, have her undo the compulsion in return for her life, and Caroline would be back to normal. She'd remember she never knew Marcel, but mostly that she wasn't heartbroken by him.

It wasn't long before there was a shaky knock which interrupts the silence. I am the first to get up, pulling open the door. With a glare, I look at the red-headed young witch.

"Get in," I order, fighting off the urge to kill her right then and there. She nervously patters over to Caroline and Rebekah, not recognizing Caroline at first.

"Marcel compelled Caroline to love him. In order for you not to be murdered, you'll undo the compulsion for us and you will not tell Marcel," I take charge, laying it out on the girl. Her look of shock I do not miss.

"And you promise you will let me live?"

"So long as you get out of my town when you're finished and never return, yes," I say. Caroline stays silent as Serena nods, taking out some candles from her bag and lighting them.

"The candles will help me to channel more magic so it will hurt less... Although I'm not sure you want to stay in the room while this is happening. This magic certainly is not going to be easy on her with such a compulsion," she talks about Caroline as if she weren't in front of her. I pull the blonde vampire aside, leaving Rebekah with the witch as I catch a worried look on her face.

"You're taking away Rebekah's compulsion? Is that even possible?" She asks. I look over to Rebekah who had insanely guilty features written on her face. Turning to Caroline, I place my hands on her shoulders- something she usually would have blushed at or pushed me away if she weren't in such a heartbroken state.

"Yes, but like she said, it's going to be painful. But I'll be here for you every step of the way, okay? And afterwards, you'll return to normal. You won't be sad, you'll be... Caroline again," I smile at the thought. It's silent for a second.

"Okay. I'm ready."
