I took a deep breath. "Yeah I'm here.'' I said on the phone. I was sitting outside of Tyreik's hospital room on the phone with Khari. I looked down at my bouquet of flowers.
"Ok girl you got this." He said. I took another deep breath. "Ok, I'm going in." I hung up the phone and walked into the room. It had almost looked like a jungle in there. There were 'get well' balloons that littered the ceiling although strange occasion for them. There were flowers that took up his night stand and just about all surfaces. I placed mine by the door.
"Aneika?" I turned and saw Ms. Gordan. She was hidden behind another bouquet as she piped her head out and walked over to hug me. Then I saw him, it was Tyreik he was laying in the hospital bed with gauze wrapped around his head. My mind went back to the gunfire in the barn. He was obviously injured but he just looked to be sleeping.
Ms. Gordan and I took a seat in two chairs beside the bed he was in. We sat for a while just looking at each other than to Tyreik. It wasn't awkward it was kind of peaceful. Finally she spoke up. "Did they tell you that they're going to try him as an adult."
"What?''
"Marcus, baby that's the name of the boy who shot him." She said. It was weird putting an actual name to Tootsie. It was like turning something cartoon like to something so real. Marcus.
"So they're trying him as an adult."
"Yes baby he was already 18." She said.
"How long?" I asked. It was quiet for a long time, I could tell it wasn't to think but to take it in.
"Ten years."
"Well aren't you happy?"
"I hate that my babys laid up in a hospital bed, but I wouldn't wish time behind bars to anyone." She said. And in this moment I got a chance really notice her. She was wearing a pair of sweats and T-shirt and uggs due to the weather getting colder. Her hair was tied up in a sloppy little bun and the only accessory she wore were a pair of earrings.
"So you're not mad at Toots- Marcus?"
"Anger leads to hate baby." She was still looking over at Tyreik but she reached out and held my hand. "You should've seen that boys face when he met me, couldn't be sorrier."
"Well he should be he-" I was starting to get upset. She tightened her grip and turned to look at me.
"Aneika Robinson, I know your hurting over this but you have to forgive yourself first before forgiving him." I looked at her confused. "Your friend Zailie came by and told me about you blaming yourself for this."
"I just miss him." I felt a tear slip and fall into my lap.
"You don't have to, he right here." We both looked at him. "And when he wakes up, we'll be right here." She smiled.
She stood up."Coffee?""Cream and sugar please." She smiled and pinched my cheek as she walked to the door. "And do you mind just clearing out the flowers that died, I want him to see bright ones when he wakes up." She poped in before making her way out.
I walked over and gave Tyreik a kiss on his head, and if I didn't know better it almost looked like he was curling his lip to smile. I smiled and started going through the flowers and the cards of course. There were some from his family but a whole bunch were from people from school. Xavier gave him a card and balloon, Jaziya gave him a bear and flowers, I had seen that Khari, Tiff, and Z signed a card together and left it on his table.
I threw out old crispy flowers and watered some of the brighter ones. I even made a pile for the cards to go. Reading them just made me smile. I came across a strange bouquet of flowers on the windowsill. They were roses but each one had been spray painted black. Kinda dark for the 'get well' theme going on here. I picked up the card taped to the vase and read it.Get well soon.
Or not. I don't care.~Cece
I picked up the flowers and dumped it and stuck the Card in my pocket. She's a bitch but what's new at this point. She wanted to come at my man? Oh this bitch got it coming, hard. How did she even get this past Ms. Gordan. I looked around the room seeing all the flowers, now I see how easy it might've been. And it wouldve been easy to get the room number and lie saying she was a friend.
There was only one way to get her to stop and it was to take her down. Its one thing to come at me, but now my man. I wondered if she was bothering my friends... nah they would've told me that by now. But if my friends didn't take my plan serious I will.Cece is going down.
