Your aim was impeccable, each bullet spiraling into the exact place you wanted it to. It was all in vain, however, as not a single shot could injure the bone-covered beast creeping towards you. You'd never encountered one of Kate's berserkers before, but Scott's description of how deadly they were seemed to be an understatement at this point; he obviously didn't expect you to run into one of them when he sent you after a fleeing Kate.

As the creature threw you to the ground and towered over you with a raised hand, you weren't sure what to do. He was raising his hand slowly, mocking your impending death. With some hope still lurking in your heart, you picked your gun from the cold concrete beside you and fired ineffective shots – the skeletal armor coated around his body prevented any damage from being done.

Before he could thrust his claw-covered hand into your body, someone had pulled the skull off of his head, revealing a sickly distorted figure. The person who had come to your aid popped their head over his shoulder and looked at you with wide eyes.

"Shoot him!" They said.

"Isaac," you whispered in astonishment. You were frozen in place; finger on the trigger, gun gripped with a trembling hand that was aimed at the berserker's head, and you couldn't do it.

The berserker growled with rage and turned around to push Isaac, but Isaac held on to the beast and fought back. For minutes, it seemed, the two struggled with one another as you watched with confusion as to how Isaac could be here.

When the berserker had pinned Isaac down on the ground, realization kicked in and you jumped up to your feet, firing your final shot at it. Isaac shoved it to the side and quickly got up to check on you.

"Did it hurt you?"

You stared at Isaac in disbelief. For months, all you felt was resentment towards him; a cloud of betrayal hung over your head the moment he left Beacon Hills to live in France. He gave no explanation, no goodbye, nothing. He didn't even try to contact anyone while he was there. You wanted to feel just as angry with him as you were for all that time, but seeing him now – all you felt was pain.

"No," you mumbled, looking anywhere but at him. "It didn't."

"I – I know you probably hate me, but –"

"– Don't." You shook your head meekly.

"Let me explain," he pleaded.

You stayed silent, making sure to keep him out of your vision.

"When she – when Allison died," you swallowed back tears and tried to push the image out of your head as he spoke, "I couldn't take it, seeing someone else die. I had to get away from it all for a while and take time to clear my head. I regret it now, I promise you I do. When I was in France, all I could think about was how fucked up it was that I didn't say goodbye. I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry."

When he finished, all you could do was smile emptily at him. "You broke me when you left."

"Babe..."

"Don't you dare call me that." The anger you were searching for came back, setting you off like an explosive. "We were all in pain when Allison passed. She wasn't just your friend; she was like a sister to me. Our families moved here together, that's how close we were. Not only had I lost her, but days later, you leave. My boyfriend. And you know what's happened since then? Everyone's moved on from me. Scott, Stiles, and Lydia? They're all close with Kira and Malia now. I'm an accessory to the pack. I've had no one for months.

And you know what else, Isaac? You're not the only one who was torn up about Allison, or Boyd, or Erica. We've all been mourning, we've all been upset about it, and we're trying to prevent anyone else from dying. You ran away instead of facing reality with me and protecting your friends. I want to hate you for that, so much – but I don't." You finished, your voice fading to a murmur.

Isaac hesitantly stepped towards you and placed his hand on your cheek, brushing away the tear that had slipped out. I'm so sorry, love."

"Why didn't you just stay?" You sniffled, peeking up at him with wet eyes.

"I don't know," he whispered, his electric, blue irises glossy with sadness.

"In the time that you were gone, I don't know if things have changed for you, but," you glanced at his lips then back up at him, "I still feel the same about you."

His lips turned upward into an unbelievable smile – one you'd missed. "I've never stopped loving you."

The kiss he placed on your lips sent goosebumps up and down your arms, chills down your spine, but warmth within your heart. It almost – almost – felt like he was never gone, like you'd kissed him just like this the prior day. But, there were months of missing time between you two; your interests have changed, minds have developed, and there's nearly half a year of information to get caught up on. So, when Isaac asked if he could take you out the next day, you agreed, hoping fixing your relationship up would be as easy as it sounded.
