I was surrounded by clapping, and the flashing lights of cameras. No one told me there were going to be photographers. I smiled, and tried to look natural. The king appeared to my right just like Charlotte said. He took my hand, and led me to the middle of the ballroom. The room was silent as everyone waited for the music to start. Suddenly the music started, and I was suddenly very nervous. I curtsied to the king, and we started to dance. I did the moves I learned during my lesson, and I seemed to be doing them right. My heart was pounding so fast it was all I could hear. I saw the kings mouth move, but I didn't hear him, "What did you say?" I asked.
"I asked if you are alright. You look like your about to faint." He gave me a small smile.
"I think I might sir. I don't know why, but I am so nervous." I replied.
"Don't worry you are doing great. Just remember to smile, and be yourself. Everything else will come naturally. Now when we switch partners you will be dancing with King Donavan. He might ask you some questions about where you came from, and I want you to tell him that you are from the village. You met Jasper one day in the town square, and you became friends. Then, you fell in love, and he proposed to you a few days ago. Do you understand me?" His mouth was smiling, but his eyes were like daggers.
I gulped, "Of course Your Highness."
His real smile returned, "My dear call me Vance." At the time we stopped, and bowed to each other. Then, the king was replaced with a man with dark brown hair. His eyes were an even darker brown. We bowed, and started dancing.
"Hello my name is King Donavan. I am the king of Zarina. It is a pleasure to meet you." His voice was deep, and if he wasn't smiling you would think he was mad.
"The pleasure is all mine Your Highness." I was surprised at how calm my voice sounded.
"Please call me Van. It is what my friends call me. Now why don't you tell me about yourself?" His face looked like he was waiting for me to mess up.
"Well I am from the village, and I have lived there my entire life." I smiled.
"That is swell so how did you meet the prince?" He asked.
"One day I was walking in the town square, and we kind of ran into each other. I mean we really ran into each other. I was reading, and wasn't watching were I was going. We started talking, and instantly became friends. Then, it just grew from there. Finally, he proposed to me a few days ago." The lie rolled off my lips, and I hated myself even more with every word. Van nodded, and didn't say anything else. The remainder of the dance was done in silence. I danced with about three other kings before the dance was over. Then, someone tapped on a microphone, and called me and Jasper to the dance floor. Everyone dispersed, and I was left facing Jasper. He wore the same outfit as earlier, but somehow he looked better than before. I stiffened when I realized how familiar this all felt. This is the scene I always dreamed about. Jasper walked over to me, and put one hand on my waist. I took his other hand, and put mine on this shoulder. We stood there for a few seconds before the music started. I looked deep into his green eyes. The music started, and I felt like I was in a fairy tale. We moved as one, and I felt like a true princess. It was just like the dream. It was magical. When the dance was over we stood there lost in each other's eyes. People started clapping, and we were shocked out of our trance. We laughed, and Jasper offered me his arm. We walked over to the thrones.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"You are going to meet all of the royal court, princes, princesses, kings, and queens of here. Also, you are going to be given a crown tonight. It is not the one you will be given at the coordination, but it is one that shows you are the princess." He smiled at me, and we walked up the three small steps to the thrones. We turned, and stood in front of the big velvet chairs. His was blue velvet, and mine was white. A man dressed in pure white ropes came forward, and placed a gold crown on Jaspers head. It looked like one out of fairy tales with blue gems on it. Then, he walked over to me with a tiara. The tiara was gold as well, and looked like the plastic ones that little girls wear. However, mine had blue and white gems scattered on it. It was gorgeous. The rope guy placed the tiara on my head, and stood beside me, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Prince Jasper and Princess Sylvia." Everyone exploded into applause. There was even some woops of joy. I smiled, and we sat down. The throne was comfortable, but I felt small in it. People started to line up to meet me.
