I walked into gym with a little bit of a bounce to my steps. I love gym, and have since I was a little girl. Everything like that just comes easily. Back in my old community, we had gym once a week. Our version of gym was going outside, and using our powers in some way. I love this version of gym too, however.
Our teacher this year is Mrs. Calvin. I heard she is a really strict lady. I think that is just a rumor. She is the only reason our Volleyball and Softball teams win any games. She trains them all the time. They even do work over break. The girls love it, but some of them complain like crazy. Oh well, it is there problem not mine.
I wore the gym uniform with pride. I love the uniform. It is a red T-shirt with the school's name across the top. Out shorts reach the middle of our thighs. They are not extremely short; thank the Lord for that. They are also grey. Most of the girls complain about the shorts. They say it is too long, but I think they are just whining for no reason. The shorts are grey.
"I want everyone on the black line," Everyone's heads turn to see Mrs. Calvin enter the gym. She is a very pretty lady. She has her red hair put into a ponytail. She wore the same uniform that we do, except she has on a grey sports jacket over her shirt. She had a huge smile on her face, "I am really excited to have you guys in my gym class this year. You all seem like a great group of kids. I hope you all love my class," She opened her notebook, "This year I have decided to give you a gym partner. That means you will do every activity together. You will have to work together. I don't want anyone complaining about their partner either. When you walk into this gym you will sit with your partner. You will be kind, and will treat your partner with respect. Now, I will tell you who that partner is going to be. First, Brad and Hadley you two are partners. Next, Greg and Rachael you are together," She said a few more groups before she go to mine, "Finally, Sylvia and Mackenzie are in a group. Ok everyone find your partners and meet me on the track." She walked out the door.
I groaned. Why does every teacher seem to think that we need to always be together? I found Mackenzie sitting on the floor tying her shoes. I stood in front of her waiting.
She looked up with a smirk, "Hey partner I can't wait to get started," She held out her hand. I helped her up, and walked away, "Are you just going to leave me here?"
I called over my shoulder, "Yep you might want to hurry or you will get in trouble."
When I got outside everyone was getting set on the start line. Mrs. Calvin was yelling out instructions when I got there. She turned around, and looked at me, "Where is your partner?"
I pointed to Mackenzie, who was running towards the track, "I am coming Mrs. Calvin. I had to tie my shoes real quick."
Mrs. Calvin pointed towards the start line, "I want you to run a lap with your partner, and then walk two laps. If you and your partner get separated then you do an extra lap. Is everybody ready?" We all nodded. She blew her whistle, and we all took off. Mackenzie and I were at the front of the group. Obviously we were a couple of the fastest people in the class. Greg and Rachael started to gain on us. I looked at Mackenzie.
"Are you ready to out run them?" I said with a smile on my face. She nodded, and we took off as fast as we could. I was surprised how Mackenzie was keeping up with me. I didn't think she was that fast.
"You better not be holding back on me Ryan because I got a lot of running left in me." I looked at her surprised. No one calls me by my last name except my teachers. I gained more speed, and she kept up with me. I gave it all that I got. Mackenzie stayed with me the entire time. We crossed the finish line, and I kept going. I didn't mean to, but Mackenzie sped up, and stayed with me.
