No one spoke for a long time. We all stood there thinking over the fact we are in deep trouble. I thought about my brother, and how he would probably know what to do. Then, that's when my plan fell into place.
I turned to my mother, "Mom what if I told you I could talk to some people, and figure out a way to fix this. We could find a way to give Rachael her powers back, or find a way to change the prophecy. Whichever one works best that is."
My mother turned to me, and I saw that her eyes were red from crying, "How are you going to be able to do that sweetheart. You heard Grandma Melinda. There is no way to change the prophecy. There was only one person who knew the loopholes in the words, and I have no idea where he is."
I smiled, "Does he happen to look a lot like father, and have the same last name as me?"
Mother's eyes got big, and she reached behind her for a chair, "Please tell me you are being serious because I swear to you Sylvia if you are joking..."
I interrupted, "I'm serious mother. I know where he is. Well I know the general location he is, but I haven't found him yet. He is in the dungeon in the castle, and we are working on finding him."
Rachael walked over to us, "What the heck are you all talking about? What is happening, and how are we going to fix all of the crap that is going on?"
Mason put a hand on her shoulder, "Rachael calm down ok? We will fix all of this, and everything can move on normally."
Rachel swatted at his hand, "Listen here you No-Crown Prince. I don't need you to tell me how to feel, or how I should be handling this. I know how I feel, and I don't need you to try and control me just like you control everyone else in your stupid village!"
Mother stood up, and slammed her hands together causing a loud crash to vibrate through the room, "Rachael you will not speak to a prince that way. I have raised you better than that," Rachael lowered her eyes, "Moving on. We need to find out what we want to do now. There is too much at stake here so we need to move quickly. First, Sylvia I want you and Mason to go back to the castle. See if you can find anything in the secret library that can help us."
Mason's eyes got big, "How do you know about the secret library? It's a secret! It's in the name!"
My mother gave a sly grin, "Sweet child. My family made the secret library. I used to spend time in there all the time as a child. I gave Sylvia's Aunt Lucia the key to the library, and I guess she gave it to Sylvia already."
Mason stood there not knowing what to say.
I asked, "Mason you told me you had been in the library before. How did you get in without the key?"
Mason looked away from my eyes, "I had a key, but after I used it once it disappeared for some reason."
I looked at my mother, and she looked skeptical, "Anyway, you need to go back there, and find out a way to fix this."
Rachael slammed her hands down on the ground, and stood up, "Why are we trying to fix it? Why can't we just let me be the chosen one, and find a way to get my powers back? Sylvia is not the only one that has the potential to be special you know. You have another freaking daughter!" Rachael ran up the stairs, and we heard the door slam to her room.
We stood in silence for a few moments before I spoke, "Mason and I will see what we can do. I think it's best if we leave now."
Mother's smile turned sad, "Yes that would probably be best. I will miss you Sylvia. Make sure you visit once and a while."
