My first instinct was to run. To get to safety, and make to where this woman could never find me. I didn't run. I looked into her eyes, and felt safety. I felt at home, and knew she would never hurt me.

"I know you must have a thousand questions, but all of the answers will come in time. Right now I need to let you know who I am. I am Valencia. I am a guardian."

I nodded, "Ok what are you the guardian of?"

Valencia looked at Mason, "Well I am not able to tell you that. I am not really allowed to be here to be honest. I was supposed to see but not be seen. Let us just say I am your guardian."

I didn't know what to say. So many questions were forming in my mind. Yet, I couldn't bring myself to ask them. Yes, Valencia gives off a very positive energy, but I can't make up my mind if I could trust her.

Mason came up, and put a hand on my shoulder, "You can trust her Sylvia." The hope and kindness in his eyes made all my doubts melt away.

Valencia gestured for me to sit at the table. Mason pulled out a chair, and smiled. I sat down, and he whispered, "Don't lie to her because she will know about it. Just tell her the truth." I turned my head, and then realized that doing that was a mistake. His face was smooth and calm. There was a half-smile on his face, but his eyes were full of light. I could feel his warmth radiating of him. A small shiver went through my body, and I had to pull back the urge to reach out and touch him. Suddenly, Mason blinked a few times, and then stood up, walking to the seat across from me. I could feel my cheeks burn from the encounter.

"So let us start with your questions Sylvia. I will answer as many of them as I can." She had a sweet smile on her face, but I couldn't help but feel there was darkness in there too.

I took a deep breath, "Are you light or dark?"

She gave me a sad smile, "I am not allowed to answer that question. You see I am your only guardian. There are three others besides me. Veronica is one, I am one, my sister is the third, and your brother is the fourth guardian you have."

My heart sped up, "You know of my brother? Where is he? Is he ok? Have they been hurting him?"

Mason cleared his throat, "Calm down Sylvia. I have talked to some trusted guards, and though they cannot tell me where he is kept, they do know that they have not hurt him. They mostly just keep his strength down so he can't use his magic. Your brother is much more than a simple villager. He is a guardian of great power."

Valencia cleared her throat, "We did not come here to tell you everything. Sometimes the journey to find answers is more important than the knowledge of the truth. Now I know I have not been able to answer any of your questions, but I must depart now. Staying in this realm is hard for me." She stood, and before I could even think of something to say, she was gone. I sighed, and realized that Mason was still here. The thought of being alone with him made my heart race, and I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks.

Mason took an exhausted breath, "While I am here do you want to read some more?" He gave me a tired smile.

"I don't think I'm going to read anymore today. I am so tired I think I might just pass out." I smiled, and started to reach for the necklace.

"Wait, may I talk to you before you go?" Mason asked.

I dropped my hand, "Of course."

Mason sighed, "I wish I could tell you more about the prophecy, but I need to let you know that Jasper isn't what he says he is. Don't believe anything he says, Sylvia. I don't want you to get hurt." His face was warm and soft, but in his eyes I saw panic, and something that looked like darkness. It was fleeting, but it was still there.
