SAM'S POV
It wasn't long before Joseph and I reached the pack house again. We had barely stepped out of the surrounding forest when we were surrounded by pack wolves, each one staring intently on Joseph, snarling up a storm.
"Why did you bring him back here? How screwed up do you have to be to bring the rogue back here?"
Had this boy not learned? As of yesterday I was Alpha here and he had no right to speak to me like this, if not because I was Alpha then because I was his mate.
"It would do you well to remember that at the moment I am in charge. Don't question me, Dylan, I wouldn't bring him back here if it wasn't safe for the pack."
No matter how much my wolf loved Dylan and his wolf she did not like to be questioned and doubted. It was difficult to keep her from pushing a little more of my power into the air.
"Sammy, I thought you were going to kill him. What has changed?" John made sure to keep his voice respectful, letting me know that he didn't doubt my wolf and I, showing he was merely curious.
"A lot has changed. To keep things short, Joseph is my warrior now and he has my full trust. No one here will try to mess with him or else they will have to answer to me." My voice leaked with an underlining of Alpha command. Each wolf surrounding us slightly bowed their heads, acknowledging my command.
The wolves around us slowly backed off back into the cover of the trees to go run perimeter. All that remained was Dylan and his father.
While John was looking at Joey with pure curiosity Dylan was livid. It wouldn't be long before he lost all control and attacked my warrior.
"Dylan, calm down. You will not attack Joseph, he is on my side, which should be your side as well. Suck up your man pride and realize this isn't about you and having your mate all to yourself. This, Dylan, is about doing what will be best for everyone in the long run. Try to hurt my warrior and you won't like what happens next."
John had turned his head to his son when I started to speak, evaluating just how close to shifting his son was.
"Son, stop. Do not disrespect your mate any more than you already have. Sammy knows what she is doing so if she says that Joseph is trustworthy and will be her warrior that is how it will be. I did not raise you to question your mate with everything she does. Get over what you are thinking and learn to accept how things are."
Dylan's father turned to me and offered a small smile before walking away back into the pack house. Now it was just Dylan, Joseph and I.
"Joey," I turned to him, giving him my full attention, "go run perimeter. I will link you when I am done here."
He did as I said without hesitation. If only my own mate could be as easy.
"Why is he really still alive?"
Could he not learn?
"He is my warrior and both his human and wolf will do anything in their power to keep me safe. You should be happy, this way you won't have to always be next to me. I mean, you've already shown that you don't ever agree with me so it should keep you from having to put up with me."
I didn't mean for it to come out so rude and offensive, but I couldn't help it. I was getting tired of him always questioning me and making it clear that a mate connection wasn't really enough. Although I regretted saying it I wasn't going to apologize, even after seeing his face fall, because I wasn't sorry. I truly felt this way and maybe it was about time he was made aware of it.
