DYLAN'S POV

Well my night was about to get even more interesting.  My parents just got back from their trip and were getting their bags out of the taxi.  I wanted to talk to my dad about my mate.  Surely he would know what to do to get on her good side again.  I only feared that my dad would judge me as an Alpha and a mate.

My mate was sleeping in my sister's room and I knew that now would be the only time I would have them alone to talk.  I greeted them and gave them a hug before my mother headed upstairs.

My mother was a short woman with bright green eyes like my own.  Her hair used to be golden like my sister's, but time has aged it to a dull gold with grays here and there.  At age 45, Clara Evergreen still looked barely a day over 30 at first glance.  If you looked closer you could see the laugh lines that formed from years of laughter and humor.

"Night mom!"  I called to her as she headed up the stairs to her room for the night.

When my mother was out of ear shot I turned to my father.

"Can we go somewhere and talk?"  I asked him.

He gave me a sigh before he turned to face me.  I've never realized how old he looks even if he is only 48.  His once midnight black hair was filled with gray by his ears and you could see the age lines etched in his face.  His brown eyes looked tired and drawn.  I guess years of being Alpha John stressed him a little too much.  I really hope that doesn't happen to me.

"Sure.  Lead the way to wherever you want to talk."  His voice held the exhaustion that was clear in his eyes.

I lead him out back to the old fire pit that we used to always sit by at night.  While he took a seat I got the fresh wood that sat beside the pit and tossed it into the circle of rocks.  I took a match and threw it in, watching the flames come alive as I did.

"What is it that you wanted to talk to me about, son?"  my dad asked after sitting in the quiet for five minutes.

"I found my mate."

"That's great news.  So why don't you sound more happy that she came back."  He talked to me like I was crazy for feeling a little depressed.

"I screwed up and I don't know how to fix it.  She's nothing like I thought she would be and I let my  pride get in the way of being with her.  She said that I have to prove that I'm a good Alpha and mate then she might forgive me.  What do I do?"  I sounded like a little kid begging an adult to tell him the answer.

"Your pride," he murmured softly.  "You let your pride get in the way.  You know that no Alpha is suppose to put pride first."  He reprimanded me.

"I know I just wasn't thinking at the time."  My voice was on the edge of being a whine, even to my own ears.

My father gave me a skeptic look because of my childish act.

"You want my advice?  Just be yourself and show her what kind of a person you are.  Don't keep your walls up with your mate and don't expect her to follow you always."  my father chuckled darkly.  "Trust me.  From my own experience women often have a mind of their own and don't like to be told what to do."

"How do I make her see me?  She's not going to be focused on me because there are things going on right now that are more important than me."

I sounded like a girl and I knew it.  Even if I had only known Sam for today I was whipped.  I may not have shown it earlier, but I guess that's because I didn't know that I would loose her if I went against her in this.  I felt terrible for hurting her.  Then I hurt her again at the end of the meeting by defying what she had said about being Alpha and just pushed her away more.  I hung my head, ashamed of what I had done as John stared at me, watching to see how I reacted.
