SAM'S POV

After Joey's wound was cleaned we started walking up the stream's side.  It was silent as we both listened to our surroundings.

We had finally reached my spot.  I came to here every time I came back to check on the pack.  I had made it my own personal place where I slept and spent my days talking to Skylar.

It was a small waterfall that was accompanied by a large rock that dipped down in the middle to look like a couch.  The waterfall created a mist that would cover one's feet if they were seated on the rock with their feet dangling.  It was a soothing place to sit when you just needed to think in silence.

I sat on the rock and Joseph followed my example.

"I guess I can't avoid this for ever, can I?"  Joey chuckled humorlessly.

I turned to him so that I could rest my feet up on his lap.  Immediately following my actions the air became lighter and less tense than it had been.  He relaxed and leaned back into the rock before he spoke again.

"I wasn't like this before, you know.  I used to be an amazingly kind guy." he laughed humorlessly.  "That was before I lost her thought.  Before my life turned to hell.

"Jenny was full of life.  She was always happy and always looked on the bright side of everything.  She always talked about you, too.  She idolized you because even though she was always positive she saw what was happening all around her.  She loved the idea that there was someone that would be able to stop it."

Jenny. Such a simple name for a girl who seemed to be a spectacular angel in this cruel world.

"We were going to explore the world together.  Go sight seeing.  Go to the city of love and get married in the human's way.  It was going to be perfect.  But then he screwed everything up.  He walked into our lives and took her from me.  He kidnapped her and told me that I had to kidnap you then deliver you to him.  He never texted me where to take you though so I decided to have some fun.  I blamed you.  In my head you were the reason Jenny wasn't next to me where she was suppose to be.  After you escaped I decided to go back to my place to tell him that you were gone.

"It was in our bathroom that I found her.  She was in the bathtub dead.  She had bled out."

His voice cracked, but he continued any way.

"I had no way of finding him so I turned my sights on you.  I had twisted it in my head to believe that if you hadn't of escaped and left she would still be alive.  Looking back on it now though I always knew that he would have killed her either way.  It just made it easier to be mad at you instead of sad and depressed because I lost her.  I lost the one person who was always suppose to be mine and by my side."

I couldn't bring myself to resent him for blaming me.  To lose one's mate was unbearable.  I had no doubt that if he didn't turn to anger towards me he would have ended his own life a long time ago.  Even if Dylan wasn't my favourite person right now I couldn't imagine my life without him in it.

"Joseph, who is he?"

"That bastard Cole Tenebrae."

My heart stopped.

Cole Tenebrae.

Cole.

Tenebrae.

Son of Blake Tenebrae.

Son of my parents' killer.
