I woke up to a voice shouting "BREAKFAST!".
I sat up and wiped my eyes. I noticed I had a blanket now, but I remembered falling asleep with a towel as a blanket. I looked over at Michael, who had a towel instead of a blanket.
He switched to keep me warm.
We both stood up and walked to the door. I gave him a hug, and he was confused at the action of thankfulness.
"Thank you" I said. He slowly placed his arms on my back, copying my hugging motion. I released him and gave him a smile. He gave me a crooked smile and opened the door for me, signaling me to exit first.
I did, and tried to remember where the dining room was. I succeeded, and entered the room. Pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausages were set on the table, and Michael sat down in his spot. I walked over to mine, sitting in the spot the man said was mine.
"These ones are chocolate chip, these ones are blueberry and these ones are m&m" the man said pointing at each pancake flavor.
I reached for the m&m plate, and placed two pancakes on my plate. I then reached for the bacon plate and set three strips on my plate, and began to eat.
"How was your sleep last night?" The man asked.
"Good" I simply said chewing my bacon.
"That's nice. And yours?" The man asked Michael.
"Good" Michael softly spoke taking a bite out of a sausage.
"I'm glad" the man smiled eating his eggs. The room fell into a silence, the only sound filling the room being our silverware scraping against the plates. "So, I thought tonight we can have a family game night and watch some movies, how does that sound?" The man asked.
"Family?" I asked.
"Yes, family" the man said.
"You're not my family. I have a real family at my house. I have a mom and a dad and a dog. You're not my family" I said. Michaels eyes turned fearful and the mans face turned red with anger. His grip on his fork grew stronger and he threw it at me. I quickly moved out of the way, and the fork slammed against the wall and fell to the floor.
"Don't you dare speak to me that way" the man said through his gritted teeth.
"My apologies" I said fearfully breaking eye contact and eating the rest of my breakfast. "May I be excused?" I asked as my throats started to swell.
"Go to your room" he said dismissing me. I obeyed, and left, speed walking to my room. As soon as I reached it, I closed the door and ran to my corner, crying.
I missed my actual family, and Cassie and her family. I missed the way my mum and I would talk about our day while cooking dinner together while we waited for dad to come home. I miss when dad would come home and tell us about his day, even though it was boring, I still missed it.
I miss when we would go to the store and buy nerf guns just for the hell of it and run around the house shooting each other. I miss when we would take our dog Gracie on walks with us and we'd all just laugh and trip each other.
I miss when Cassie would sleep over and we'd pull pranks on my parents in the middle of the night, and they'd play pranks back. I miss when I'd sleep over at Cassie's and we'd attempt to prank her parents but they'd always have a prank planned before we could prank them.
I miss when we would all get together and hang out, whether it be having a movie night or a water balloon war, we'd always have fun no matter what we were doing.
