I sat in my room alone, flipping the pages of "The Fault in Our Stars", typical readings for a teenager, when my phone began to ring. I rolled my body across my bed to my nightstand where my phone rested.

"Hemmings House"

I scrunched my eyebrows, confused as to why the Hemmings' would be calling, so I pressed the green answer button.

"Hello?" I called.

"Hey Willow, its Luke" he spoke.

"Hey, is everything okay?" I asked.

"Yeah.. well.. not really" he said. I raised an eyebrow at his uncertainty.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Are you... um.. did you... uh.. never mind I'll call back later" he sighed.

"No" I said stopping him. "You can ask me anything, it's okay" I said as a plea for him to stay.

"Alright" he awkwardly said. He cleared his throat and took a deep inhale, sounding nervous. "Are you and Michael.. ya know.. dating?" He asked. My eyes widened.

"Hold that thought Luke, my mom is calling me from downstairs" I said.

"Oka-"

I ran from the phone and bursted into Michael's room. He was playing video games and I ran in front of his tv to block the view.

"Hey! I'm playing a game!" He whined.

"Luke called me asking if we're a thing and I don't know what to say" I said.

"Did you hang up on him?" Michael asked.

"No, he's on the line still" I said.

"Shit" Michael muttered.

"Should we just tell him?" I asked.

"I mean, it's the truth, and the right thing to do" he said.

"Yeah, I just don't want to hurt his feelings" I sighed.

"Then I'll do it" Michael said getting up and exiting.

"Wait!" I said rushing after him. "Take it easy on him" I added. He nodded and I followed him back into my room. Michael walked over to the bed and picked up the phone, lifting it to his ear.

"Hey Luke? It's Michael" he spoke. His tone of voice was so fragile that if it was smashed against thin ice, the ice wouldn't even scratch. "Yeah, I overheard the call, Willow put you on speaker, she was curling her hair and I heard" Michael lied.

There was a pause filled with faint muttering, signaling Luke was speaking. I tried to get closer to make out the words he was saying, but the phone was on too low of a volume.

"About that, yeah we uh made it official, I'm sorry Luke" Michael said sliding his hand into his pocket. There was no faint muttering this time. This pause was filled with silence. "Luke?" Michael asked.

The muttering appeared again, and my mind desperately wondered what he was saying.

"Alright, I'll call you later then" Michael said. "Okay, bye" he added before pressing the end button.

"What did he say?" I asked.

"He's definitely upset" Michael sighed.

"Well of course he's upset.." I said. Michael just nodded and sat down on my bed, placing the phone next to him. "You alright?" I asked.
