I haven't spoken to Michael in a few days, and the distance was killing me. I didn't want distance, I didn't want to be ignored, or feel like I didn't matter to him.
"Hey mum, are you and dad still going to that work banquet tonight?" I asked.
"Yeah, so you and Mike are free to do whatever you want, call over Cassie and order a pizza or something" she said.
"Actually, can it just be Michael and I?" I asked.
"Sure, is everything okay between you two? You haven't gone and done anything crazy in a few days, no new hair color or piercings or tattoos" she joked.
"It's complicated" I sighed.
"I know how it feels kiddo. Hang in there" she said.
"So you know how it feels when the only person you could ever picture yourself with has feelings for another person?" I asked.
"Of course, everyone has felt that at some point. Well, there were definitely different circumstances than your situation, but I want to tell you a little story" she said.
"Okay, what is it?" I asked.
"His name was Harland Jacobson, my number one crush ever" she started. "He was gorgeous, killer smile, beautiful eyes, luscious hair, anything you could ever want in a guy" she continued. "But he had a crush on a guy, he was gay. That guy's name was William" she said.
"William... as in dad?" I asked.
"Yep, William Clemens" she laughed.
"So you're saying I should ditch Michael and date Luke?" I laughed.
"Of course not" she giggled. "What I'm saying is everything will work out. Life is funny some times and the things you'll go through will be difficult but everything will eventually work it's way out. Whether you do end up with Michael or not, it will all be okay in the end. No pain will last forever" she said. I nodded and folded my arms.
"What do you think he's going to do?" I asked.
"I don't know honey but whatever he does decide to do, just be there for him. He's had a rough life and we're his only chance. We're all he has" she said.
"I know" I said. "I just love him mum. I want him to be happy, but I don't want that happiness to come from Luke. I want to be the one to make him happy because I'm selfish and want him all to myself" I said. "I truly love him and know that this is more than a stupid teenage crush" I added.
"And he loves you too, you know I'll always support you no matter what and I'll always be here for you baby" she said kissing my head.
"I love you mummy" I smiled.
"I love you too Willy, forever and always" she said.
"Since you said that, would you mind doing me a favor?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"I need your help with something" I smirked.
"With what darling?" She cooed.
"I'm gonna get Michael back" I said.
"You really think that's a good idea?" She asked.
"Why isn't it?" I asked.
"You're going to break Luke's heart. He loves Michael just as much as you do" she said.
"Well what am I supposed to do? Ruin my happiness for Luke's and let Michael continue to suffer in his own mind because he can't hurt either of us?" I asked.
"Things take time" she said.
"And I'll give him time. While you help me with this" I said.
"What exactly are you going to do?" She asked.
"You'll see. Take me to the store" I said.
