Lily's POV:

"And three...two...one...," James whispers to us.

PANG

The amount of noise in the Great Hall has suddenly dropped to no noise. Everyone looks around for the thing that made the noise. I also look around but this time at the Slytherin table. When they start to catch people's attention everyone bursts into laughter.   I try not to laugh but it doesn't work. I also burst into laugher at the hilarious sight! They look a damn lot better than they used to, except for the scowls on their faces.

I turn around to the teachers table and see Professor Dumbledore trying to suppress a smile however, Professor McGonagall, who is standing next to him, isn't looking too happy.

She comes walking from the table to where we are sitting.

"Mr Black, Mr Lupin, Mr Pettigrew and Mr Po-" Professor McGonagall starts shouting until Professor Dumbledore cuts her off.

"Minerva, it's alright, we all could do with a little laughter these days," Professor Dumbledore says. Professor McGonagall looked as if she wanted to discuss but she decides to let it be.

I look at Mary who is sitting next to me on the other side. She's also laughing so I'm happy we did this before she left.

"I'm so sad you have to go!" I whisper while hugging Mary.

"So am I. But promise to write about everything little thing that happens! You will, won't you?" Mary replies, wiping the tears from her face.

"Before you leave, Marlene and I want to give you something," I say, giving her the book together with Marls.

"Awhh thank you soo much!" Mary smiles through her tears.

"By the way, cheer extra loud for Gryffindor from me!" Mary hugs us one last time before taking Jessica's hand.

"Wait Mary!" I exclaim before she steps into the fireplace.

"What?" Mary asks, letting Jessica's hand go.

"Come here for a minute," I say with a small smile.

See follows me and I whisper something in her ear. Her grim look turns into a smile.

"Congratulations! Keep me updated!" Mary whispers back. I give her one last hug and let her go.

She takes Jessica's hand one last time and leaves.

We stand there for a moment, saying nothing.

"I'm going to miss her so much!" I start to really cry realising that one of my best friends, who I've always sat with on the Hogwarts Express, has just left.

Marlene puts her arm around my shoulders and says," Me too."

"I'm going up to my common room, do you want to come or not?" I say, wiping my tears away.

"Nah, I'll pass, sorry. No offence but I just need to think some things through," Marlene replies, wiping away her tears.

"It's okay," I smile and we make our way to our own common rooms.

When I arrive I notice that James isn't here just but then I remember that James has Quidditch practice.

I just sit on the couch and pick up a book, not that I even know what's going on in the book. I can't seem to stop thinking about Mary and how she lost her parents and that's why we lost her.
