Annabella woke up with a scream. Lying facedown, her dry mouth being mashed into a pillow in a way that muffled the high pitched sound.
Still, she couldn't help but worry that someone might’ve heard, might decide to come check on her and make sure she was okay.
She kicked the tangle of blankets and sheets from her legs and pushed them to the foot of her bed. Or....not hers.
What...?
Where the hell was she? This wasn't her room. This definitely wasn't her room!
Hauling herself up against the short wooden headboard, she cocked her ear toward the white door, alerted to any sign of suspicious movements, convinced it’s just a matter of time before someone burst into the unknown room bearing some strange herbal brew she’ll be forced to drink to lose consciousness again or do something even worse.
But all she made out was nothing. No sounds seeping under the door. Just silence.
Complete silence.
The light zoomed toward her, bright and unexpected, prompting her to squint, to cover her face with her hands, only to find that she couldn't raise her arms—and when she struggled to sit, she fell back again.
What the—?
Her limbs lied useless, stretched out to either side, and after lifting her head, trying to get a
grip on her predicament, that’s when she saw her arms wrapped in gauzes, her whole body painfully aching and her head dealing with a wicked dizziness.
And that's when she remembered. That's when memories of that night came flashing back at her like flying daggers piercing through her head.
The events of that horrible night.
Her losing control.
Daniel ready to kill her.
Blood.
The beautiful alluring and warmly calm voice.
The dream and the Van Alens. But...
Was it really a dream? Was it all really a coincidence? Was it all a simple trick of her mind?
No...
It couldn't be, right....?
She was an esper and she was living in the magical world. Anna knew that nothing was just a simple coincidence there. Everything could possibly happen. And that dream.... Felt surprisingly and oddly familiar and real. She felt it in all the familiar and warm chills running through her whole body as she read those names. Not once but twice.
Anna had learned that nothing is what it seems. She herself wasn't what the human world was viewing her to be. She was different. Special. A magical creature with unique abilities and a big life purpose.
Magic did existed. She herself was a part of it. And in this world, nothing was as simple as a coincidence. Everything happens for a reason and everything has its own meaning hidden behind an illusionary facade.
Anna had a feeling that she should listen and believe in that strange dream of hers. There must be a good reason as to why she had it in the first place. What did the dream was trying to say, anyway? What was it's hidden meaning?
She just needed to figure it out.
She had to find out. She had to find out about the Van Allen family to reassure her uneasy mind and suffocating anxiousness about the whole situation. To reassure herself about her intuitions and guesses.
